America’s Biggest Issues: Welfare

More than 5 years, many well-being programs, and $25 trillion in the future, the well-being system has in fact mostly stopped working the poor.

The Heritage Foundation’s Genevieve Wood explains that the United States presently spends about a trillion dollars a year on over 90 different federal, state, and regional well-being programs. Around 12 percent of Americans are still considered poor.

We are clearly spending a lot of cash so why do we still have such a high poverty rate?
