Sean is guilty of extremely poor exegesis. The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are not the same as the initial evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. And don't confuse being baptized into the BODY of Christ with being baptized in the Holy Spirit. There are at least three places in Acts that support what I am saying.
You receive a prayer language after being baptized in the Holy spirit and it is yours permanently. IT IS A PRAYER LANGUAGE (see 1 Corinthians 14:2-4 and 18).
We don’t speak in tongues because nobody is a interpreter so stop, saying God gave certain people certain things because nowadays we don’t have those powers and we can’t speak tongues
Mark 16:17
Hi Mr McDowell, I am confused about the tongues thing. I know the 1st mention of it was during/after Pentecost when the disciples spoke in different languages & the different ethnic groups at the time could hear their native languages spoken by these Jewish men. However, in this present age, I'm unsure of what Paul mentions as speaking in tongues means. Is it the strange babbling I hear (no disrespect) or is it something else? Thank you. 🙏
people conflate fruits of teh spirit and spiritual gifts
Sean you don't speak in tongues so I don't expect you to know anything about tongues, but you are amazing on other topics, thanks
Sean doesn't understand the purpose of tongues here, tongues is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit in a person's when they receive the HS. But in 1 Corint 12 Paul is talking to a out of order church informing to use tongues as a sign to produce a message gift so saints can hear God's word
Acts of apostles when the Holy Ghost came down on pentecost , they all spoke in tongues. Its for everyone jude 1:20 admonished us to pray in the Holy Ghost to built your holy faith.
EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD SPEAK IN TONGUES. I DO AND UNLIKE SOME WHO GOT IT STRAIGHT AWAY, I HAD TO PRACTICE, MAN. How do I know, I got it? I was delivered from grief from a miscarriage, by speaking in tongues very fast in my kitchen. YOU NEED THE TONGUE. IT IS A POWERFUL WEAPON, NUCLEAR LIKE, AGAINST THE ENEMY (Kevin Zadai testimony).
Clarify what tongues is.
In rhe old testament tongues is an actual spoken language.
AMEN
I would like the gift to prophecy. I think that one is beautiful
Your opinion doesnt matter Word of God does !!
Thank you for clarifying this!❤
This is why I just focus on teachers like Sean McDowell. Thank you for impacting so brilliantly. God Bless you and your ministry immensely.
❤Thank You 💗 eternally grateful for your Wisdom and Knowledge and Truth
They may not need to, but it is soooooo wonderful!
Paul also calls it, the gift you’re referring to, the language of angels (1 Corinthians 13:1), right?
Luke’s account in Acts Chapter 2 is referring to the fact that people from all over the region were in Jerusalem. They didn’t all speak the same language, but were there in the city because they believed the scriptures.
When the Spirit hit people began speaking and witnessing that the Messiah, the word made flesh, had been resurrected. They were miraculously witnessing the gospel to believers in their own languages. This was not some charismatic evangelical altar call though.
It's all part of the imposter Protestant cults, calling themselves Evangelicals! The ones right now justifying war crimes in Gaza! The ones with corrupt rootless pastors without oversears.
The charism (not "gift") of tongues in an assembly is very different than speaking/worshipping/praying in tongues that occurs when filled with Holy Spirit. Two completely different contexts.
Thank you. I have found this to be TRUE. I was blessed to experience this gift. It was amazing; but, I can't just do it at will.
Language researchers have debunked "tongues." It turns out nobody speaking used any sounds other than their own language. Nice try. But EPIC FAIL.
This 'speaking in tougues' is outward expression of an illness all Christians have. An extroverted activity which makes this illness apparent to any rational observer.
How does speaking in tongue even sound like? 🤔
“When I became a man I put away childish things.”
The greater issue is the Pentecostal church's teaching that speaking in tongues is required for salvation because that is the only way to know that you have received the Holy Spirit which is a falsehood and unbiblical to the core and I know as a fact these things. Also, most people who claim to speak in tongues are faking it. The other thing is even in Pentecostal circles no one ever talks about speaking in tongues on the mission fields in foreign countries. If tongues were so important today then that would be so crucial to go and make disciples of all the nations.
Tongues is a language not a babbling of nonsense, many other religions do the same, research it, but for the bible it was a logical language that made sense for the spreading of the gospel
Honestly surprised Dr McDowell believes tongues is still active. Pretty controversial subject. One thing important to point out is that if tongues are spoken in church, it needs to have an interpreter. That's what it says. Paul was against wasting people's time on words that no one understands. I only ever spoke in tongues in my prayer closet. No one has ever heard it.
This is what Paul has to say on this. Anything in the gospels have Jesus speaking to this?
Right. I've heard it so abused and have heard people say the same words and call it tongues. Then someone will say something in tongues and everyone's pauses to see if someone will interpret and it's just really gotten uncomfortable.
I moved from a Pentecostal Church to an Evangelical Church so I keep my tounges to myself but not much else has changed. They are all Christians, tongues or not. The fruit they produce is imho better on average so I feel more at home in my new church.
Rubbish
You are rhe first apologist I've ever heard talk about this in the way that you have. All the ones I've heard, including calvinists, shoot down the majority of spiritual gifts. Thank you for putting this video out.
Not to mention the fact that Paul says it is utterly useless if no one can interpret it. He literally condemned the church at Corinth for the same thing going on in churches all across America
Tongues, just sounds like a load of drivel to me! I just don’t get it. The sceptical side of me say’s, it’s made up drivel!
The apostles back in the day of Pentecost spoke in different languages so that native foreign speakers could understand! That is so different from the drivel people speak today! I believe it is actually a huge deception!
Speaking in tongues, means you are able to speak the native language of others, not drivel like…aba daba belum nego ska bala illit feco bedall nama! ( just my own made up drivel!)
It’s clearly demonic!
And speaking in tongues is speaking in real, known languages that can be interpreted. Speaking in tongues is not speaking gibberish.
Thank you for this. This had confused me for awhile. I went to a church in the past where everyone started to do it and they did it when it didn’t make sense. And I’m just sitting there wondering what everyone is saying and getting nothing out of the service. I wondered what was wrong with me because I couldn’t do it. And then I started to wonder if they were speaking in heavenly tongues or demonic tongues.
