FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – A Fairbanks man was arrested on Saturday after Alaska State Troopers received a tip about drugs being sold from a hotel room. According to charging documents, Michael Cofey Senior, 61, was allegedly selling heroin, methamphetamine and oxycodone pills believed to contain fentanyl from room 126 in the Golden North Motel in Fairbanks.
Troopers responded to the hotel to serve Cofey an outstanding arrest warrant. According to Troopers, he allegedly tried to flee the hotel room and was tackled before being placed in handcuffs.
Troopers found $940 in cash, 58 oxycodone pills that are suspected to be counterfeit and contain fentanyl, 10.5 grams of methamphetamine, and 2.5 grams of heroin.
According to the charging document, fentanyl laced pills where linked to a large number of overdoses in the fall of 2020, including one fatal overdose in the Fairbanks area.
