Note: If you want to disagree with something I say in the video, that’s fine (and even welcome). But please at least attempt to watch the video and understand the points being made. That’s all I ask 🙂

According to dilahunty and the atheists who disliked, people who have been raped have no evidence, their statement and the statement of witnesses apparently don't count as evidence anymore 🤦🤦

Yes. Christianity is true. I have experienced it.

@capturing christianity A "reasonable assertion" as you put it is still not evidence of the thing asserted. Now for mundane things this is fine (though still not evidence) because you already know they exist, however thats not what we're talking about. Your daughter claiming to have seen something doesn't mean it actually happened, otherwise when people claim to have seen ghosts and bigfoot we'd take them seriously.

4:57 Getting 2nd or 3rd hand accounts of something is already not evidence for the reason stated above plus now you're dealing with extra variables as you're not even talking to the person who had the experience. This is a problem given that the bible ONLY contains 2nd or 3rd hand accounts. Correct me if I'm wrong but in a court of law 2nd and 3rd hand accounts are no longer considered eyewitness accounts (not that eyewitness accounts are very good in the first place as any lawyer will tell you) and would instead be dismissed as hearsay a.k.a. rumors.

7:28 is a moot point given that claims don't qualify for evidence anyway

For your facebook post: "My Dillahunty video is making the rounds in the skeptical community. Its currently at 250 downvotes (actually somewhat of a record). Means its reaching the right people."
It may be reaching the right people but if you listen to them they think you're wrong and lay out reasons as I have. People aren't convinced by you because your 23 minute video is proven wrong by a few paragraphs in a youtube comment.

So, by your own rationale, if someone really, reeeeeally believes something, that alone makes it a reasonable claim? Does that mean it's not possible for a person to be mistaken? Based on nothing more than the level of their passion? What if they're in a mental institution? Or just haven't been diagnosed yet? What about that kid we all went to school with who habitually told tall tales? Sometimes he even pinky promised or (gasp) swore to God!
Utterly putting religion, superstition and the supernatural aside, you have such a low standard of evidence, without a hint of sarcasm, I'm not sure if I'd trust your word if you said you seen a child skin his knee.

Jay Kline - posted on April 9, 2020 11:48 am

"Some claims can provide some evidence." You've said this three times without providing an example of a claim that can do that. Do you have an example of a claim that provides some evidence?

Jay Kline - posted on April 9, 2020 11:49 am

Miraculous claims are extraordinary claims and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Hearsay is not extraordinary, even if it is written down.

You should watch the the Paulogia video. That how honest people with no motives or preconceived notions talk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G15_nUFVeEg

The thing you think is wrong is the fact that the logic he provides us both sound and destroys your belief. That's that feeling. Sorry you aren't honest enough with yourself to recognize that and instead made a video showing just how far you will bury your head up your own ass to avoid the fact that Matt wins debate after debate with easy logic.

Todd Crosby - posted on April 9, 2020 6:52 pm

Wow, you really screwed that’ up! You literally state manned Matt’s statement then complained about the condition of the straw man you yourself just constructed. Then you tried to get cute about it and thought you were more clever then too were and made yourself look like a twit.
You seem like a nice person who CAN reason, you just opted not to when looking at Matt’s statement regarding claims. This stuff is simple and covered within the first two weeks of debate training on our school, so I trust you will figure it out.

Sounds like you've proved that aliens exist

nandawula elizabeth - posted on April 10, 2020 11:18 pm

I wonder what “ Just claims not evidence means” because if a claim is just an assertion then I might need him to explain if he is a person and if then he is a person then present the evidence to prove his claim to me. To say you are a person is just a claim. Thanks for this video because I was having these questions while watching the debate. I am so disappointed that the comment section on that video shows that mike’s evidence were just claims and yet Matt was making statements that did not make sense at all unless you just want to be a skeptic.

colzbroeffect boss - posted on April 12, 2020 7:16 am

When you contrast unreasonable assertions with reasonable assertions, you're essentially doing the same thing Matt does to point out why some claims require different standards of evidence. We aren't going to need buckets of evidence for mundane claims, but extrodinary claims will need extrodinary amounts of evidence. If you tell me you have a garden, I'll probably believe you. If you tell me you have a garden with super plants that grow 30 feet up into the air, I'd need to see proof.

However, both claims require evidence, even if we might be more willing to accept one over the other without evidence. A claim on its own is not evidence.

MT is just a rethoricist and semantics player.

Oscar Rivera - posted on April 12, 2020 8:34 am

I think that many people failed to deal with MD strategy and words play with "evidence", "claims", etc. You are falling in his rhetoric play.
