We are nation of immigrants from western societies mostly. That is where our common values come from. Ellis Island saw Germans, Scots, Swedes, Italians, Irish etc. It did not see Somalians, Mexicans, or Hmong. And those European immigrants came under very tough rules. My father came in '52 off a boat in Halifax, through a checkpoint, his documents verified, and was given the modern equivalent of $400 and told where to go to work in a mining town. He was assigned. And that was it. You did not just fly in to a big city and do what you want.

Immigrants were needed to build a country back then, especially after the war. So they were let in for that purpose only. And they were 98% white. THAT kind of immigration is what worked.

That is NOT what we have today.

At any rate, the country is built now. And overcrowded. We don't need anymore. Thank you. If you can't make your own country a good place to live, why would we think you would make our country any better? Fix your own country first.

Political and religious freedom? They fled due to the lack of religious and political restrictions in the UK.

Luckily, somebody had the foresight to bring a camera with them to film some of the first people to arrive in America and their activities. Too bad Columbus didn't think about that.
