Could you investigate the Raleigh County WV prosecuting attorney’s recent statements indicating that women could be charged for unplanned miscarriages, depending on the method of disposal of the baby? He further said other prosecuting attorneys have expressed interest in pursuing this. He also said it may be that women will need to notify the county of pregnancies/miscarriages. 🤯 Amazingly, the website for the Raleigh County prosecuting attorney is down, and I have received no response from the governor.

To Abbeys statement. As a nurse I’ve seen medicine dehumanize many as fear Bounds humans in the process. This circumstance is filled with hope and if I as a mother can think what this beautiful mother would want I would think she would want everyone to stop with the prideful hate and pray for her and her baby being woven by Gods hands within. It is unusual to see a hospital do the right thing when it comes to unborn children. I can kind of see how they might interpret the Georgia abortion law in a way that keeps the mother on life support for the sake of the child. But, the oath that doctors take should be viewed as requiring them to do everything possible to save both the mother and the child. If one dies in the process, the doctors should still be fighting to save the other. This is a perfect example of what doctors should be doing. I just wish they were doing it because it is the right thing to do instead of doing it because of some legal interpretation.
I am so pro-life, but I have also been in healthcare for for 20+ years. I do not equate artificially keeping a woman who is dead…alive , with the hopes of artificially keeping her unborn child alive, as preserving and respecting life. I am not involved in her care, but I can only imagine the medications required to support life with a great likelihood neither she nor her baby can survive. Also, I believe great risks are being taken that could create lifelong impacts if this child survives the stress being placed on its mother’s body and in turn its body in utero. I firmly believe mankind has taken what is meant to be a natural process and have unnaturally attempted to extend life beyond what was ever intended, ethical, or humane. After witnessing many tragedies in my career in the ER, I firmly believe, especially as a Christiantian, there are worse things than death. Natural death can be a gift, and the human desire to fight it can create far greater pain. I am not speaking of ending life, but just like we have overstepped in creating life artificially….I beleive we have overstepped in extending life artificially. I guess the greatest decision is what/when is the moral line in the sand on when to stop. My answer would definitely included brain death. Keeping someone who is brain dead alive is not simply “placing her on life support”. It’s intense, it’s tricky. It usually requires hemodynamic support. Monitoring for infection. Stress to the body and stress to the baby.

The issue in GA is a legal question more than a moral question as it hinges on the state's obligation to protect a child, and the extent to which that obligation applies to an unborn child. It is a question with legitimate alternative views that ought to be respected. A state with too much authority can become oppressive, and one with too little power allows evil to thrive unchecked. Finding that balance is not always easy.
