Who Cares About Illegal Immigration?

It’s easy to understand why people from all over the world desire to come to the United States. Is that the thoughtful thing to do? Is that the sensible thing to do?

The population of Philadelphia has to do with 2 million people. That makes it the 6th biggest city in the US.

Did you know that we are, in impact, including a new city the size of Philadelphia to our nation every year?

That’s how many illegal immigrants entered the United States in 2021 and will in 2022.

I totally get why individuals want to come here. I’m sure I ‘d do the very same if I remained in their shoes.

In America they can earn more money than where they’re from.

In America there’s the guideline of law.

In America there’s opportunity.

And in America there are generous federal government advantages– real estate subsidies, complimentary education for their kids, totally free medical care.

That’s the prohibited immigrant’s side of the story and it makes ideal sense.

What about our side of the story– the American taxpayers’ side of the story.

Do we get a say in this?

Seems like we should.

It’s approximated that Americans spend $200 billion a year to house, feed, school, and care for prohibited immigrants.

If you say that we’re an abundant nation, that these individuals are running away poverty and war, and it’s merely the compassionate thing to do for us to let them come here and remain here, then I would ask: where do you fix a limit, if you draw the line at all?

Should we let anyone from anywhere into the country? Wouldn’t that be the compassionate thing to do?

The people who come across our southern border are extremely poor with very restricted education. This isn’t a judgment. It’s a fact.

Does not it seem likely that these illegal immigrants would work for nearly any wage to earn money?

Would not that drive down wages for low-skilled American residents– of every race and ethnicity– with whom they would be completing for jobs?

What happens to those citizens, including legal immigrants, if they get priced out of the job market altogether? Is anyone thinking about them?

Violent crime is increasing throughout the country at a worrying rate. Under these circumstances, does it make sense to enable two million people a year into the country about whom we understand absolutely nothing? We do not understand if they have a criminal record, if they’re carrying a disease, or anything else about them.

We typically hear the phrase, “we are a country of immigrants.” Till relatively recently the only way immigrants might enter the nation was legally.

Possibly you remember the scene in the timeless film Godfather II when young Vito Corleone concerns America from Italy. When he gets here, he has to go through Ellis Island. He has smallpox, so he’s quarantined for three months. That was over a century earlier.

Do we do anything like that now?

And what are we going to make with these millions of prohibited immigrants once they have been here, state, five years or ten years or longer?

Forcibly deport them?

We all understand that’s never ever going to occur.

Make them people?

After they broke our laws to get into the country?
