Why America Invaded Iraq|5 Minute Video
Why did America enter Iraq in 2003? Or was it due to the reality that Saddam Hussein was a mass-murdering totalitarian who harbored terrorists and threatened the area with Weapons of Mass Destruction? If it was the former, would not it have been a lot easier to merely acquire Iraq’s oil on the open market?

Why did the United States fight versus Iraq in 2003? The choice was questionable at the time and stays so today. The factor was clear: Saddam Hussein, the ruthless totalitarian of Iraq for 35 years was the primary threat to peace in the Middle East.

With that threat got rid of, the Bush Administration believed the center of an operating democracy in Iraq would inspire the development of democracy elsewhere in the Arab world. As democracy spread, terrorism would pull away.

It is on the blood-stained life and profession of Saddam Hussein that we require to focus in order far better to comprehend why the United States felt forced to act in 2003.

We begin with the Iran-Iraq War, which Saddam began in 1980 and which lasted up until 1988. One million individuals passed away in the course of the decade-long struggle. And throughout that war, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)– particularly toxic substance gas– were utilized often by both sides.

As rapidly as his war with Iran ended, rather of establishing his shattered country, Saddam selected to start another experience: In 1990, he tried to get 19% of the world’s oil supply by getting in Kuwait.

His brief addition of Kuwait showed to be another disaster. The Mother of All Battles, as Saddam called it, ended up being a 3-week knocking, his Iraqi army utterly beat by a US-led union. Instead of trying Saddam as a war lawbreaker, America and the West permitted him to remain in power.

This appeasement ultimately led Saddam, when once again, to draw totally the incorrect conclusion and to his making yet another enormous error. He arrogantly believed that his Iraqi army might truly beat the United States in a 2nd encounter.

His trump card, he believed, or a minimum of tried to make the world believe, was his individual valuables of WMD – big amounts of harmful substance gas and, if merely in his creativity, a quickly advancing nuclear weapons improvement program. There was no element to question that he had WMD, as he had actually utilized contaminant gas in his war versus Iran. No one– not the Germans, not the Russians, not the British– had any doubts about this.

Remembering, at the twelve years in between the Gulf War and the Iraq War, Saddam may have had the ability to re-establish worldwide reliability by following the 16 useful UN resolutions passed in between November 1990 and December 1999. These resolutions merely needed Saddam to, among others things: ‘damage all of his ballistic rockets with a variety higher than 150 kilometers; stop assistance for terrorism around the world and avoid terrorist business from operating within Iraq; and bear monetary liability for damage from the Gulf War’.

Saddam invested the 1990s buffooning and defying America and Britain in every possible approach. He attempted to shoot down Royal Air Force and United States Air Force aircrafts over the no-fly zones developed to prevent him from mass-slaughtering his own citizens; he corruptly made money from the UN oil-for-food scandal while Iraqi kids starved to death; he supplied $25,000 to the families of every Palestinian suicide-bomber; he harbored much of the world’s leading terrorists, and he expelled UN weapon’s inspectors.
