America would be a much better location if every high school principal provided the following speech.
To the trainees and professors of our high school:
I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no higher calling than to teach young people. I would like to apprise you of some essential modifications concerning our school.
This school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if you are black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, European, Latin American or Asian, or if your ancestors shown up here on the Mayflower or on servant ships.
The only identity this school will recognize is your specific identity– your character, your scholarship, your humankind. And the only nationwide identity this school will acknowledge is American. This is an American public school, and American public schools were produced to make much better Americans.
If you want to affirm here an ethnic or racial identity– or a nationwide identity other than American– you will have to attend another school. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on identities such as race, ethnic culture, sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in our society.
This school’s clubs will be based on interests and enthusiasms– clubs that carry you to the marvels and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can envision having an interest in are those based on ethnicity, race or sexual identity, that indicates that little outside of yourself actually interests you.
Second, I do not care whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has unified America’s people for over 200 years, and it will join us at this school. I would be remiss in my duty to guarantee that you will be prepared to successfully compete in the task market, if you leave this school without excellent English-language abilities. We will discover other languages here– it’s terrible that the majority of Americans only speak English– but if you desire classes taught in your native language instead of in English, this is not the ideal school for you.
Third, since I relate to learning as a sacred endeavor, whatever in this school will show knowing’s raised status. This suggests, to name a few things, that you and your teachers will dress appropriately. There will be a gown code at this school.
And you will attend to all instructors by their title, not by their given name. They are your instructors, not your pals.
