The Truth about the Vietnam War | 5 Minute Video
Did the United States win or lose the Vietnam War? We are taught that it was a resounding loss for America, one that proves that intervening in the affairs of other nations is usually misguided. The truth is that our military won the war, but our politicians lost it. The Communists in North Vietnam actually signed a peace treaty, effectively surrendering. But the U.S. Congress didn’t hold up its end of the bargain. In just five minutes, learn the truth about who really lost the Vietnam War.

Decades back, in late 1972, South Vietnam and the United States were winning the Vietnam War decisively by every conceivable measure. That’s not just my view. That was the view of our enemy, the North Vietnamese government officials. Victory was apparent when President Nixon ordered the U.S. Air Force to bomb industrial and military targets in Hanoi, North Viet Nam’s capital city, and in Haiphong, its major port city, and we would stop the bombing if the North Vietnamese would attend the Paris Peace Talks that they had left earlier. The North Vietnamese did go back to the Paris Peace talks, and we did stop the bombing as promised.
On January the 23rd, 1973, President Nixon gave a speech to the nation on primetime television announcing that the Paris Peace Accords had been initialed by the United States, South Vietnam, North Vietnam, the Viet Cong, and the Accords would be signed on the 27th. What the United States and South Vietnam received in those accords was victory. At the White House, it was called “VV Day,” “Victory in Vietnam Day.”
The U.S. backed up that victory with a simple pledge within the Paris Peace Accords saying: should the South require any military hardware to defend itself against any North Vietnam aggression we would provide replacement aid to the South on a piece-by-piece, one-to-one replacement, meaning a bullet for a bullet; a helicopter for a helicopter, for all things lost — replacement. The advance of communist tyranny had been halted by those accords.
Then it all came apart. And It happened this way: In August of the following year, 1974, President Nixon resigned his office as a result of what became known as “Watergate.” Three months after his resignation came the November congressional elections and within them the Democrats won a landslide victory for the new Congress and many of the members used their new majority to de-fund the military aid the U.S. had promised, piece for piece, breaking the commitment that we made to the South Vietnamese in Paris to provide whatever military hardware the South Vietnamese needed in case of aggression from the North. Put simply and accurately, a majority of Democrats of the 94th Congress did not keep the word of the United States.
On April the 10th of 1975, President Gerald Ford appealed directly to those members of the congress in an evening Joint Session, televised to the nation. In that speech he literally begged the Congress to keep the word of the United States. But as President Ford delivered his speech, many of the members of the Congress walked out of the chamber. Many of them had an investment in America’s failure in Vietnam. They had participated in demonstrations against the war for many years. They wouldn’t give the aid.

What is it with us Americans blaming each other for everything?
One of the saddest chapters in the history of both America and Southeast Asia. It shouldn’t have happened the way it did.
I'm a 25 year veteran of the US Navy. If I was a foreign nation who was promised support from us, I wouldn't believe a word of it. Just look at Afghanistan.
The last time militarism worked was during WW2, totally a different era with different doctrine and different allies.
We lost in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Combodia, and Cuba. We lost our resources, our investments, and the lives of our beloved ones. Let's be clear: PragerU is an absolute propaganda machine that works for the Apparatus to maintain jingoism and keep Americans fearful of the picture of a greater enemy (which varies by time). The question is: will we be decieved again?
Thank you Bruce I'm a veteran of Vietnam I already knew what had went down. But thank you for it feels so good to hear it broadcast to the world.
So this is how the USA won!
Actually losing, got it 😂
Who funded the Democrats in the 94th Congress? Gerald Ford knew did he not? Can’t hate RINOs enough.
ah yes leave it to the democrats to screw everything up again.
So Democrats have ALWAYS been Commies – it figures.
I'm a Nam Vet. There is a saying among us…"If you weren't there keep your mouth shut"
I believe my dad was in Vietnam in 1971 with the US Army. I knew he served, I wasn't certain of the year. He was a radar mechanic. His rank was staff sergeant. I am proud of my dad for this but sad for him as well because of the traumatic experience. He is still with us at 77 years old. Unfortunately, his overall health is not too good. Thank you to everyone who has served! Your intentions were not in vain.
The President shouldn’t make peace deals that require ongoing funding from Congress in order to succeed. Got it.
Wow, such vivid imagination, and nothing like counterfactual history to argue that the US won. It is such perspectives that not only reinforce US exceptionalism, but blinds people from learning anything from this failed conflict (explaining both the debacles of the Bush administration decision to invade both Iraq and Afghanistan). Half a century later, many Americans can't let go of the fact the US lost, but this perspective by itself is wrong because it makes the US the central actor. Instead of asking why the US lost, which is the wrong question, better to ask why Vietnam prevailed? If one asks this latter question, and read the Vietnamese sources/perspectives, then one can quickly realize this was their War for Independence.
Soooooo much historical context is left out of this video. Like the fact the Vietnamese had rebelled against the French after years of mistreatment and pretty much slavery. They immediately sook help and recognition from the UN and the USA and promised and end to violence as soon as they were recognized as their own state. America said no bc they where communist MADE UP south Vietnam and continued the war dropping over 3x the tonnage of bombs dropped in all of WW2 on Vietnam targeting cites and villages. Since they couldn’t hit the vast majority of military compounds that were under ground. Their is way more to this conflict than Pu is admitting to but this is not surprising as twisting history to fit ur Narrative is every thing u are about
Communism? the swamp in Washington
The only solution in the early and mid 1970s was the total destruction of N. Vietnam and the unification of Vietnam on U. S. terms only. The interminable defense of the South against the North as per that "peace" agreement in 1973 could never hold short of the only real solution. Those old men knew that as well as I did when I was young, and even younger, in 1966. And I knew, in 1966, that they knew it, but that they would do what they did anyway. I knew they were going to deliberately lose the war, even before I decided to submit to the draft in 1967 by enlisting in the Navy for four years, before the lottery draft was ever talked about. After I got out of the Navy, alive and in one piece, I watched, and sure enough, it happened: Vietnam united under communism. I've been watching what has been happening since, all the same thing. I truly expect the election in a few short weeks to be the defining moment for THIS country, the U.S. A., and the world, for freedom or for slavery, like Vietnam.
good god he left out so much , u wanna talk about cambodia and laos? the cosvn? russian advisors
American soldiers did NOT lose the war! Gutless politicians, like Robert McNamara and Lyndon Johnson STOPPED us from actually fighting like we were trained to do. Also, companies like Monsanto and numerous small arms manufacturers, did everything they could do to prolong the war because of their incredible profits. GET IT STRAIGHT OR SHUT THE FUVK UP !!!!
The North Vietnamese could have united with the South Vietnamese the same way the East Germans unite with the West Germans – without war and without killing millions of people that share their own blood…
However, the North Vietnamese were so blood thirsty that they would kill people of their own blood by the millions… Even as of today, they still do not understand that.
The North Vietnamese communist leadership does not know how to love the people that shared their own blood like the East German communist leadership. What a shame…
Funny, now Republicans are doing the same thing to Ukraine

Funny how a lesson from this could be applied to this today. America won the Vietnam war, the south Vietnam lost. Yet today we have people on the left wanting to stop aiding Israel and people on the right wanting the same for Ukrainian. How about we stop the real money drain's like social security and all the debts where taking on, and just support the country's currently being attacked by hostile foreign forces.
At 1:20, this liar claims that VV Day stood for “Victory in Vietnam Day”. It stands for “Vietnam Veterans Day”. It always has and always will.
In Pres. Nixon’s address to the Nation, he used the phrase, “peace with honor” or some variation of it several times. He did not use the word “victory” at all.
This is shameless revisionism.🤮
We have come to expect nothing less from PU.
Spreading misinformation online🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣
This makes me SICK. I’m so sorry i was to happy to be back home to not pay attention to what the dirty basters were doing . I do know they Well have to ANSWER For ALL The DEATHS THAY CAUSED.
Typical American coping
This is the most stupid and biased video about Vietnam I've ever seen. We never should have been there. The whole thing was unjustified.
Oh the truth is history repeat: Fall of Kabul 😂😂
So in other words, US political in-fighting was what screwed up any chance of victory in Vietnam?
