Why do you hate conservatives? Well let’s not say hate. Let’s say dislike, because you don’t really hate anyone.

You may dislike them because they want to ban abortion. Conservatives say they’re all for freedom, but when it comes to a woman’s freedom to choose what she wants to do with her own body, they sing a different tune.

You may dislike them because they oppress people of color and deny the fact that America is systemically racist. Conservatives say that everybody is equal regardless of race, and that racism has little to no effect on the daily lives of people of color. So they just ignore the issue altogether.

You may dislike them because they don’t believe in climate change. Scientists keep telling us we’re overheating the planet and conservatives don’t seem to care. They’re more concerned about profits than people. But what good is money if you have no planet to spend it on?

You may dislike them because they’re obsessed with guns. How are we ever going to stop gun violence if we don’t get guns off the streets? And how are we ever going to get guns off the streets, if conservatives block every commonsense gun law?

You may dislike them because they’re so intolerant. What’s the harm of calling somebody by their preferred pronouns? Why can’t conservatives just show some compassion instead of obsessing over every kind of behavior they don’t like?

You may dislike them because if they got their way, they’d get rid of democracy and establish an authoritarian theocracy. Bye-bye separation of church and state. Hello, fascism.

After all that, you might sum up conservatives in one word: ugh.

If any of this resonates with you, I get it. I’ve been there. But—and this surprised me—I found they actually have reasons for thinking the way they do.

Here are some of them.

On abortion: To start, we can agree that no one likes abortion. But there is a clear divide on the issue. Progressives focus their attention on the mother. Conservatives, while they have compassion for the mother, focus their attention on the baby. They see a human being growing in a mother’s womb as innocent and vulnerable. Those babies deserve to be protected, since they obviously can’t protect themselves.

On racism: Conservatives don’t deny that racist people exist, but when it comes to the narrative of systemic racism, conservatives are unconvinced. Of course there are disparities in this country, but why assume that these disparities are because of racism? Good schools, good parents, good habits, and good communities would go much further toward alleviating poverty and expanding opportunity than a lifetime of racial justice movements. By the way, these rules apply to everyone, regardless of skin color.

On climate change: Conservatives have very little faith in computer models that have been inaccurately predicting disaster for nearly half a century. Conservatives have a lot of faith, however, in human ingenuity to overcome climate. What is air conditioning but a human adaptation to the environment? See Miami or Phoenix for further reference. This is not to say we should simply do nothing. Nuclear power, for example, holds so much promise as a renewable and safe energy source. Conservatives don’t understand why environmentalists oppose it. It makes them skeptical—and suspicious—that the real agenda behind the environmentalist movement is not saving the planet, but giving more power to the government to control people’s lives.

As a conservative myself and looking at the comment section, it's clear that short form videos like these, while affective at drawing the attention of left-aligned folks, is quite ineffective at actually budging them ideologically or even considering a conservative counter-case to viewing things.

    I think this might simply be due to deeper beliefs like the concept of systemic oppression, for example, which leave them totally agreeing with Amala during the first half of the video when it comes to "racist conservatives" and utterly confused at the end. They didn't get the point, not because there wasn't one, but because only conservative-minded folks will be able to make the connections necessary to have that "OHHHHH" moment. A different strategy will ultimately be needed to have genuine conversations with people and change their minds…which unironically is what "Change My Mind" and street-discussion-format videos are quite successful at when done with charity and patience.

I’m neither liberal or conservative but if I had to choose a side I choose the left I admit the libs go a little to far on certain things but I support what they stand for a world where people are being oppressed by their way of life NOW conservatives on the other hand are the worse of the worse of the WORSE they may think they’re trying to change America for the better but they’re too ignorant and bigoted to realize that they’re making it worse than it already is spreading hate and violence won’t solve anything

  7. Parenting is a valuable life lesson when handling the petulant children who call themselves progressive. Reality is conservative. Conservative adults are at their best when standing up for truth in the face of progressive tantrums.

  10. About the taxes thing. We just have psychotic government who takes our taxes and puts it toward our overly inflated miliary instead of universal healthcare and good education systems. It's not about how much taxes are being taken, it's about what it's going toward. I'd rather pay high taxes for better healthcare than be exploited by millionaires who don't care for the people.

  12. I hate you because you prevent society from progressing by trying to keep everything they way it is. My hate only grows every single time you guys try to reverse something that was important in society. You try to prevent people from being themselves.

  16. 1. A lot of conservatives are fundimentalist extremist and many of their politics are governed by religion not logic or science or even human rights. They however may pretend to be objective and open minded while calling liberals closed minded.
    2. Ever met that wealthy snob who thinks they are better than you because of money? Well, conservative ideology strongly supports the idea that material success is associated with hard work. Conservatives tend to hate the poor and play the blame game. If you are a poor struggling american then why are you a conservative when most of them think you are a loser and lazy and every negative thing in the book.
    3. Being a conservative is sooooo awesome that %99 percent of reasons why top conservatives want you to join them is to protect free speech, gun laws and a whole lot of fear mongering. Dont worry that we are drowning in debt and dealing with a lot of serious issues because what really matters is saving our kids from becoming transexuals lol Lets stop abortion but not deal with kids who are starving and growing up without opportunies. They rarely talk about their policies and plans to actually make America great again. This was the number one reason why I was a conservative but now that I am liberal I still support free speech, Im against cancel culture and I dont have to be a conservative to do that. I support gay marriage, gay rights, neutral on abortion, neutral on immigration and I am all for universal healthcare. Take away fear mongering and bully tactics and you'll see that most conservatives would not have a leg to stand on.
