No, you can't lose your salvation, but unless the New Testament is incorrect (and it isn't) it is certainly possible to cast it off. It is made quite clear that apostates were from the truly saved. The "no true Scotsman" argument does not fit the description, which specifically mentions partaking of the Holy Spirit. It has everything to do with free will.
I think this is a secondary, or even tertiary issue. Salvation is the acceptance of an offer, which requires free will. If you can accept it at some point, you can reject it at another. If once saved, always saved, then we have to question whether someone who disowns Christ was actually saved in the first place. Six of one – half a dozen of another.
You can't lose eternal life.
Eternal life lasts forever.
Hebrews 10:26 is talking about the sin of unbelief. These are people that have heard the gospel and have the KNOWLEDGE of salvation (truth) but they reject the knowledge/gospel – it’s like they are standing before the veil of the tabernacle but they refuse to enter in – the verse goes on to say that there is NO OTHER WAY to have your sins washed other than to believe and trust on the Lord Jesus Christ (there is no more/other sacrifice for sins).
The passage is NOT talking about a saved believer. These people received the KNOWLEDGE of the truth but they did not receive the truth as they have not believed it in their heart.
Hebrews 10:26 – For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
We all sin deliberately and willingly every day. If we didn’t we wouldn’t have free will. The bible says that a foolish thought is a sin and a scorner is an abomination.
Proverbs 24:9 (KJV)
The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
1 John 1:8 (KJV)
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
No one forces us to lie, covet, scorn and have foolish thoughts ie SIN.
Gods grace increases and covers ALL of our sins.
1 John 3:6 (KJV)
Whosoever ABIDETH in him SINNETH NOT: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
If we apply your own standard to 1 John 3:6 you will see the inconsistency in your position.
Romans 5:20
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But WHERE SIN ABOUNDED, GRACE did much MORE ABOUND:
Do you sin? I’m sure that you do so by your own standard this means that Jesus doesn’t abide in you and you do not know him and are not saved.
See how inconsistent your standard is? Of course we ALL sin, but those that are saved do not sin in Gods eyes because we are washed of ALL sin ie once saved always saved. We are made righteous BECAUSE we believed and trusted 100% on Jesus, not our own works as you are doing (Ephesians 2:8-9).
You are teaching a false works based gospel that cannot save. You’ve misinterpreted one verse and ignored dozens of verses that teach the exact opposite of what you believe. For example;
Turning from sin is works according to God in the KJV (Jonah 3:10).
Jonah 3:10
“And God saw their WORKS, that THEY TURNED from their EVIL WAY; and God REPENTED of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.”
Romans 11:6
And if by grace, then is it NO MORE OF WORKS: otherwise grace is no more grace. But IF IT BE OF WORKS, THEN IT IS NO MORE GRACE: otherwise work is no more work.
Acts 16:30-31
"And brought them out, and said, Sirs, WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? And they said, BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and THOU SHALT BE SAVED, and thy house."
Acts 13:38-39
38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39 And by him all that BELIEVE are justified from ALL things, from which ye COULD NOT be justified by the law of Moses.
Romans 4:4-6
4 Now TO HIM THAT WORKETH is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But TO HIM THAT WORKETH NOT, but BELIEVETH on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness WITHOUT WORKS,
Mark 10:18
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is NONE GOOD but one, that is, God.
Romans 3:12
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is NONE THAT DOETH GOOD, no, not one.
John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and BELIEVETH on him that sent me, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 10:28
And I give unto them ETERNAL LIFE; and they shall NEVER PERISH, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Romans 5:20
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But WHERE SIN ABOUNDED, GRACE did much MORE ABOUND:
1 John 5:13
These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God; that YE MAY KNOW that ye have ETERNAL LIFE, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
The greatest and most positively significant development in my life was arriving at NOT believing in any gods, any religion, any woo bs, any ghosts holy or not, any fiction; there is no better feeling, no better realization, than to truly be free from human-made fiction disguised as anything relevant. This is what the world looks like without a god, this is it, we’re accountable to ourselves, according to our evolving morals.
Yes. Angels freely chose to deny God, so if THEY could lose heaven, so can we.
Many children of God's Grace leave this world unceremoniously do to poor choices. Consequences are persistent especially for those whom God has chosen. However, anyone who has their name in the Lamb's Book of Life is heaven bound regardless of poor choices in this life.
Is it possible that the Holy Spirit might leave a person? Is there a courting season and if we blow it too many times, He leaves and we are not sealed anymore? Or is it possible the Holy Spirit is only with a person but not in? I hope I don't sound crazy.
"For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries . Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified , and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."
– Hebrews 10:26-31 (ESV)
"And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away ."
– Luke 8:13 (ESV)
