A Symptom of Human Violence • The City Ep. 3
As the story of the Bible unfolds, humanity grows more and more violent. Cain is more violent than his parents, and his descendants are more violent than him. In this episode, Tim and Jon discuss Lemek, Cain’s far more murderous descendant, and humanity’s escalating violence that prompts God to flood the earth.

Why did you hide the other 10 videos of this playlist? I was about half done with it… 😞 And I was really enjoying it. Are they only available for a short while?
why did 10 of the videos for this series get removed?
That was well said, cities are a symptom of things that are not good outside of Eden, because we cannot trust… people have different ideas of good and evil. That is true, nobody is selling the vault of hell, they are selling different ideas of heaven, and these ideas come at us as thieves and murderers, like Adam's son Cain. There is a reason why we have spiritual city walls, that are laws.
It is not really about conceding to humans evil. God created us this way. Why? Because God is shaping and ‘sanctifing’ us to be people of free will who choose God, to choose to please God. He is almighty, he knew all along what was going to happening. He is working things out so we love him and obey him by choice. And that is how it will work in the end. When Jesus returns, the wheat will be harvested, the tares will be destroyed. Stop thinking God changes, NO, he is always the same. YOU GUYS ARE NOT UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN POINT. God is our creator, the same today yesterday and future. All the stories are to show us we must turn to worshiping and being Gods helper not trying to be God and making our creator our helper.
The city although there seems to be some good,it is not because all the things or streams are all good it is that it is man is being his own God. The good guys worshiping God are trying to do Gods will not theirs. City societies are all evil although some things may seem good, but it is not. It is always about the difference between our will over god will..
Have you ever ready any other books besides the Bible?
The fallen angels taught humans the use of tools and metals and signs and decoration for the body, none of it was toward a good end.
Man, these men must not have been very fertile. How do you live to 700+ years old, have 3 wives and only have 4 kids??

35 min in, you mention Enosh, where the Adam-to-Noah genealogy states was the point when men began to "call on" the name of the Lord. I've heard that this is actually a mistranslation, and should read this is when men began to profane the name of the Lord. The suggestion here is that this is the catalyst for the downward spiral that started here led to where it is noted in Genesis 6 that every thought of man was only wicked continually. Perhaps the mention of the sons of Elohim & the daughters of men is a symptom of people profaning the name of the Lord & thereby allowing demonic influence/intrusion into society? Sometime, can you please do a deep dive into whatever is going on in these passages and if they are connected?
This is a truly fascinating series! … but … a bit of constructive feedback: I really appreciate the input of both hosts, but it would be good if Jon would allow Tim to finish his thoughts so that listeners can benefit from the totality of Tim's insight … I appreciate Jon's perspectives and excellent questions, but it's frustrating for me when I'm looking forward to hearing Tim expound only to hear Jon cutting in on him or finishing his sentences for him … but … all in all I am really enjoying this series and am looking forward to continue working through all of the videos … and then some … many thanks to the whole team for a job really, really well done!
Vocation in a religious context is how God calls you to serve Him in the world. God calls you through Baptism and Confirmation to serve Him in a specific way of life. You can follow God's call as a single person, married person, ordained priest, or a vowed religious. 1 Corinthians 7:7-9, singleness is a gift…
Thank you for this series. God bless you all.
Thank you for putting the podcasts on you tube as well. It makes it easier for me to listen and follow along in a couple of bible apps.
I really love what you're doing. Thank you thank you thank you.
Great discussion as always. Also, the music playing between each session is really good. Dope.
I placed my faith elsewhere
Aw,a little violence never hurt anybody.
As I am listening to you discuss Lamech and his choice to take the life of another human being and to take two wives for himself, and then connecting it to the sons of God mimicking what Lamech did… well it really makes sense as to why God was sorry he had made human beings. I would think in the story of the sons of God who rebelled and left their boundaries to take human wives that God would have said that He was sorry he made elohim. But he doesn't say that. Instead God says he was sorry for making human beings. So is it fair to say that God was sorry for making human beings because the angels actually followed their sinful ways instead of the other way around?
You refer to the line of Cain as the line of the snake. You believe that Eve slept with the serpent and uncovered her nakedness, then slept with Adam and uncovered his nakedness, resulting in twins Cain and Abel. One from the serpent and one from Adam.
Guys, I think a cities scaling whether it is good or bad depends on the people inside the walls. Since, group of people gather together.
Nice explanation guys..
Nice video by the way. Thanks❤

Where can I find that Lamech is Cain spelled backwards? Commentary after commentary and search after search on the web revealed nothing like that. I thought it might be the same letters rearranged or in reverse order but no, not that either. Can someone please back this up?
I would think that Cain learned how to build cities from his father Adam. Also, this with me that the original intention of cities and expansion of the kingdom was initially a good thing and a divine command to take dominion, subduing multiply.
I'm one of those who think 'sons of Elohim' refers to humans. Here's why. The verses are: Genesis 6: Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive[a] with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were [b]giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then [c]the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent[d] of the thoughts of his heart was only evil [e]continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
Verse 1: talks about men and daughters born to them.
2: talks about these daughters marrying these 'sons' of God'
3. God talks about man's sin and shortening his life to 120 years. Punishment on mankind.
4. There were giants who were men who were children of the sons of God and the daughters of men.
5. God sees man's wickedness.
6. God grieves over man on the earth.
7. God says I will destroy man.
Every verse talks about men and mankind. God punishes man for his sin. There is no mention of angels or of punishment of angels. Since God is just, he does not punish men for the sins of angels. Therefore, 'sons of Elohim' are men.
This is in addition to Jesus saying angels in heaven do not marry, nor is there any revelation that angels can reproduce with each other or with men.
