American Christians Show Extreme Theological Illiteracy | Stand to Reason Podcast with Greg Koukl
Greg talks about a recent study that shows only 6% of American adults have a biblical worldview, then he answers questions about whether God is a puppet master and if it’s hypocritical to buy products from companies that promote things you disagree with but then not give money to the Salvation Army because they promote CRT.
0:00 American Christians display extreme theological illiteracy.
16:10 If God’s all-powerful, do we really have free will?
35:06 Am I a hypocrite if I buy products from companies that promote things you disagree with, but stop giving to the non-profits that do the same?
NOTE: The article Greg read on the show incorrectly stated that 6% of American adults who identify as Christians have a biblical worldview. The correct stat is 6% of all American adults (9% of American adults who identify as Christian) have a biblical worldview, while 69% of Americans self-identify as “Christian.”

We have what we have because we have been led the way we have been led. No surprises. I have been a pastor for 30 years and the philosophy of ministry that many churches have employed is vacuous and not-Bible based. What is the result..? a theologically illiterate Church. We will only change when pastors start to lead.
From your review in the first 16 minutes, it appears that very, very few Christians in America are what you consider "true" Christians. Can you tell me how far a Christian can stray from what you consider the true doctrine and beliefs and behavior before a person is not Christian enough be accepted by God? There must be a line in the sand somewhere, right? Can you sort them by denominations, or by their survey answers? How many of these misguided not-quite-true-Christians you think might be set straight with a good teacher such as youself?
Greg at the 11:30 mark in your message you said "it takes your breath away that 62% of born again Christians think all religions are pretty much similar."
Well it takes my breath away that your shocked. What passes for preaching by even the most scholarly is sad. I attended GCC for almost a year during the lock down, as I don't concider them my "home church", I very much wanted to support them. During that year the number of questionable statements became to much for me that I started asking questions. First just those in attendance, then the pastors, of which there are 22 of them. Greg not one, let me say it again, not one pastor would give me a biblical reason for what was said. All I was told was, "if you don't like it here why do you come?" And that's not the first thing or last thing they say, thats all they say.
All that said, it's not surprising to me at all that so many "Christians" think the way they do.
P.S. I mentioned J. MacArthurs church simply because I know you appreciate his ministry. There are many other examples.
Blessings.
Thank you for the explanation at the end..on the difference between paying for a "product" and paying for a "service" when it comes to organizations like Chick-fil-A and the Salvation Army and what they do with their money/profit/donations.
