Script:

The year is 1984. One company—Microsoft—dominates the computer world. It’s their way or the highway.

Conform or die.

This snapshot in time was perfectly captured in one of the most famous commercials in TV history.

Set in a gray, dystopian future, row after row of men stare blankly at a giant screen from which Big Brother—the all-powerful leader from George Orwell’s classic novel 1984—addresses them.

Suddenly, riot police burst into the hall, chasing a beautiful, blonde woman in a white shirt and red shorts. Before they can grab her, she hurls a sledgehammer into the screen, shattering Big Brother and his grip on the masses. The narrator informs us that Apple’s breakthrough product, the Macintosh computer, will be the device that sets us all free.

Looking back, Apple largely lived up to its promise. A new wave of companies, each in its own way, followed the example set by Apple’s legendary CEO, Steve Jobs.

Google gave us instant access to vast amounts of information.

Facebook gave us a new way to connect with friends, family, and the world.

Twitter brought this world to us in real time.

And YouTube allowed anyone with a smartphone to become a virtual broadcast network unto themselves.

It was glorious and empowering.

But that was yesterday. Today, it’s 1984 all over again. Big Brother is back—with an important twist.

Our former liberators now want to be our masters.

Apple, Google, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, the giants of social media, are demanding conformity to their values.

It’s their way or the highway. Conform or die.

This image is perfectly captured not by an ad, but by this recent real-life scene: Row after row of men and women stare up at Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, as he makes a presentation—ironically—before a civil rights group.

“We only have one message for those who seek to push hate, division, and violence: You have no place on our platforms,” Cook tells his audience. “You have no home here.”

“Hate”? “Division”? According to whom?

The answer is obvious: according to Apple, Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. They are becoming the Big Brother Orwell foresaw.

Conform or die.

Cook’s ideas are exactly the same as his fellow chief executives at Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

Disagree with Big Brother on, say, politics, or morality, and Big Brother will shut you up by shutting you down.

And what is it that Big Brother doesn’t like?

Well, Tim Cook, said it: anything that doesn’t conform to his left-wing worldview.

The examples are numerous and growing.

Meghan Murphy, a Canadian feminist, is permanently banned from Twitter for refusing to refer to the transgendered by their preferred pronoun, and for writing “women aren’t men.”

  4. Someday pragur u will explain who these fascist companies are beholden to and how they were granted monopolies in their respective industries. The financial elites, or int bankers who manipulate currency ruled europe before smerica was born. then colonial Settlers tasted freedom when these elites wanted their taxes. Our founders werent fighting taxes per se, they knew and warned us of these central bankers. We won the war but 100 yrs after that, we forgot to keep these elites out and govt small. Capitalism started to be suffocated in 1913, and its gone today. These bankers propped up marx and the communist revolution. And they are still used today. All crony corporations are used in a war against the people. The private sector cronies can do to the public what the govt legally cant. So its a war conducted on two fronts, or more when considering the armies involved domestically and foreign.

  19. Types of comments that I have personally had censored on YouTube and other sites over the past 2 years:

    -Certain stats from the CDC's own website.
    -Personal experiences with the vaccine and/or COVID-19.
    -Discussing election fraud allegations.
    -Posting about anomalous election statistics, including actual stats from the 2020 election.
    -Trying to post police statistics which counter the narrative that the police are racist.
    -A joke about Joe Biden in response to a joke about Trump.
    -General comments in support of Trump.
    -A comment stating that I pray for all those suffering from COVID-19, including those who are unvaccinated.

    Did I miss anything?

    I never harass or curse at anyone. I don't make things up or lie. I simply post my honest opinion about things I believe are important. And in 2020/2021, I have been censored repeatedly. I used to have more free speech than I do today. This should be a concern for everyone. Thankfully, censorship regarding vaccines appears to be waking up at least a small portion of those on the left who don't exactly fall in line with the narrative.

    If I have understood it correctly: private companies are not allowed to express themselves as they wish. it must be controlled by the state. and if you do not like it you are a communist.

  32. Isn't private companies (which are considered individuals under the law) choosing who to do business with entirely protected under the first amendment. As someone very pro first amendment, it isn't any different than any other free speech. Just like we're well within our right to quit a platform if we don't like them

Huge problem with the video's point: the laws passed in America are super friendly to corporatism, and conservatives in particular have been fighting for years to deregulate businesses so they can do precisely this. I've got a lot of problem with modern day liberals and all that, but the companies brought up in this video are products of American conservatism and any corporators and libertarians who went along with it.

    In addition the highest rated posts on sites like Facebook and Twitter usually end up being conservative posts anyway; conservative social media is thriving under this, not being stifled.

    PragerU isn't telling it like it is, like a lot of comments for this video say. They're just using big tech as a scapegoat for the real problems. I absolutely do think that these companies do need regulation, since they kill a lot of competition, both economically and in terms of free discussion, but not for the reasons outlined in this video.

  35. We have the right to use whatever service we choose. If Twitter doesn’t conform to our values in the same way we don’t conform to theirs, we need not use it. Nobody is forcing you to use a liberal-made phone. Simply influence the market with your wallet instead of whining about it. I‘ll admit I don’t like it but it’s not that hard to just go somewhere else.

  36. You guys know these websites aren't free speech platforms right? They're monitored, if these were free speech platforms I could say any words and as long is it isn't a crime (like doxxing someone) nobody could do anything, but these aren't free speech platforms, people get in trouble for harassing transgender women ➡️ men because they are harassing a minority. Does it suck you can't speak your mind sometimes? Yeah. But it's the price you have to pay to protect people from harassment, what you're advocating for is 4chan, and we all know how that turned out.

  40. I do honestly agree that these big companies are becoming too controlling, but Meghan Murphy really did deserve it. I know I’m probably gonna get cyber bullied in the replies for sharing my opinion, but what she said is just wrong. It is the people like her who make trans people across the planet lose hope in life. It makes many of us feel like there is no point in life and we aren’t welcome anywhere. So if she is gonna silence our lives and hopes of equality, than she at least deserves to have her privilege to do so taken away.
