Watch our overview video on the book of Jonah, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. The book of Jonah is a subversive story about a rebellious prophet who despises his God for loving his enemies.

I’m doing a chronological reading plan, and every time the reading plan starts me in a new book that I have not already read parts of before in the plan, I stop and watch the video from your channel about the book, and it is such a help! Thank you so much for creating these. This one specifically is my favorite so far. I wish you could see my face while listening to it. Thank you so much!
Ninevah ➡
More Ninevah➡
😂 I love the illustrations❤
If you know about ambergris than Jonah was covered in it nowadays that is a very valuable substance that they make perfumes and stuff out of
"God puts up the Jonah in all of us."
It’s easy to look down on Jonah but there’s a bit of Jonah in us all
I wouldn’t say Jonah hated got he was angry with God that’s a big difference
Amen 🙏🏽
Why does the video say Jonah hated God?

I really appreciate what you say about the mirror. I don’t believe Jonah hated God—but that he hated his enemy more than he loved God—he definitely was dramatic. The cows (beasts and flocks) wore sackcloth at the order of the king and his nobles…so they didn’t repent. Do beasts sin against God? I am thankful that God confronts our sin—that He loves us so much that He willingly meets us where we are—and shows us our sin for what it is (through His eyes)—so that we have the opportunity to repent.
this is an insanely biased version of the story which would be fine if it was comunicated that this is more commentary and interpretation but in a "Summary" there should be no place for that. very pretty artwork though
Absolutely fantastic way to decipher the book of Jonah…Thank you so much for this! God bless and I hope to see more as I read through the bible and follow up each book with your vids!!!Thank you!!!👍👍
Soo helpful. Thank you
8:50 ❤❤❤
isnt satire reserved for fiction though? OH it isnt! just rarely used in non fiction. God has an interesting sense of humor though.
He’s like a toddler throwing a tantrum and Gods just like “ Jonah let’s make good choices bud, be nice to your brothers and sisters” we are truly like dumb little kids stomping around demanding things wow
Now what the cows do ?☹️😅
"are you right to be angry?"
It’s so essential to have these bible examinations and explanations to understand what the meaning is. Thank you. May God bless us all and have mercy and grace for us always. In the natural world much of this is contrary to the emotions and reactions of everyday life. God’s way is His and we must always trust in Himto show us the way.🙏🏼💖
i just heard this story for the first time and absolutely love it! probably my favorite book i. the Bible. i get the point but didn't really understand the part at the end with the vine. could someone explain that to me?
So being eaten by a whale and not dying turns out to be impossible. Was there different whales back then? Is that a metaphor?
Excellent overview
I think another level to this is the fact that Nineveh was a gentile City
Heh…the first time I read the book of Jonah, I knew from his first action taken that he would resonate with me XD. God orders him to go somewhere. He doesn't even reply, just immediately turns in the opposite direction and "nopes" out of there.
I was very angry and rebellious for a significant portion of my life, and it warms my heart to read about how God will not give up on us, no matter how sinful we are — he will always want us to come back to him. He knows how we were created, and that we weren't created to be the lazy, selfish, disrespectful beings that we unfortunately often are. He wants to see us all restored, for our will to be in alignment with our spirit rather than our flesh.

Matthew 12:40, Jesus says, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Jesus is referring to his own death and resurrection, which is foreshadowed by Jonah's time in the belly of the fish. Jonah drown. He was dead on the bottom of the ocean floor. Chapter 2:2 – ….I cried (his soul cried out) for help from the depth of Sheol (resting place of the dead) 2:3; …thou hadst cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current engulfed me… 2:5; Waters encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me. Weeds were wrapped around my head. I descended to the roots of the mountains. (What happens to dead fish on the bottom of the ocean? They are comsumed by the bottom feeders. God preserved Jonah's body by having a very large fish swallow him.) 2:10 – Then the Lord commanded the fish and it vomited Jonah up onto dry land.
