I am a gay man who lived in an unbroken, monogamous relationship with another man until his death six years ago. A year later, I found salvation in the embrace of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I was blessed to attend this same presentation that Christopher gave at Hope Chapel Central Oahu two years ago. Since then, I have received am Master's degree in Christian Ministry from Pacific Rim Christian University here in Honolulu.
Christopher and I are exactly on the same page. And although there is a myriad of attempted explanations for homosexuality, the simplest and most directly truthful is that it is a consequence of the brokenness the world inherited through the Fall.
The commonest and most specious arguments against homosexuality are that: 1. It's a sin; 2. It's unnatural.
Homosexuality, like heterosexuality and bisexuality , is a state, condition or orientation. As such, they are morally neutral. The words homosexuality, heterosexuality and bisexuality never appear in the Bible because they were coined in 1892 by Charles Gilbert Chaddock in a translation of Richard von Krafft-Ebing's study on sexual practices.
And this is the point: Even if one agrees that the Biblical descriptions of carnality do in fact correlate to our present-day understanding through the use of those terms, nowhere in the Bible is homosexuality itself condemned – only its practice. Nowhere in the Bible is heterosexuality itself condemned – only its practice outside of Biblical marriage. Therefore, condemning homosexuality itself as a sin exposes a failure to distinguish clearly between the state, which is not sinful, and its carnal expression, which is sinful.
Homosexuality is not unnatural. Why? Because indisputable and corroborated accounts of homosexual behavior have been recorded in nearly 1,500 animal species, among which nearly 750 exhibit lifelong same-sex pairings. So since homosexuality is found extensively in nature, it cannot be considered unnatural. Nonetheless, homosexuality in the animal kingdom also is a consequence of the Fall.
