If God, how did JESUS not know THIS?
“Who touched me?” If Jesus is God, why does He ask questions? Couple things to note:
1. Asking a question doesn’t imply you don’t know the answer.
As a teacher and a parent, I ask my kids and students a lot of questions not because I don’t know the answer but because I want them to learn something.
2. Jesus often asks questions to draw out the faith of others.
So what was Jesus maybe doing in the circumstance of the bleeding woman (Luke 8:43-48)?
He was drawing out her faith:
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
Then when healed, she could be an example to others of the goodness and identity of Jesus.

God isn’t Jesus he’s the son of a God.
Zeus had a one night stand with Mary.
He makes a valid point when he says that Jesus may have been asking that question to teach them something. In the ancient Jewish culture, questions were how teachers would instruct and enlighten the students. Great stuff here!
Love this scripture. Certainly Jesus knew. Believe He was trying to engage her and relate w her and have her openly say/ask/relate. A knowing and being known 🙏🏻✝️🙌🏻
Jesus does not break into your house (your heart). He knocked on her door and waited for her to choose to let Him in. He's acknowledgement of her amongst the masses was a demonstration of his omnipotent power, that no matter how many of us call on Him, he hears each and everyone of us. Jesus declaring that a lot of power was needed for that miracle, was Him alerting the woman, that He knows he suffering has been great and He acknowledged that despite her long suffering, she refused to give up her search for Him. He faith remained in Him.
well thats just the thing…we do not understand God… therefore why would it be so strange that God asked who touched him
Jesus is not God. He did have the ability to use the Holy Spirit.
So much bullshit
GODalso ask questions 🪔yet is all knowing
Genesis 4:9 And the LORD said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
Thank you for this, I always wondered why He asked this question. But now I see Jesus was trying to gently draw her out to Him.
For only spiritual growth, hé said if I glorifie myself is nothing ( not acceptable) is thé Father ( God) who glorifie me. You can see what he asked everytime hé healthed someone, don't tell go to the sacrifice guys and présent what Moïse stipule by law…clear now?
God asked Adam in the Garden of Eden- Adam where are you?
Jesus is not God
Jesus didn't disagree with the Bible either. He was calling out people using an eye for an eye for personal vengeance instead of governmental penalties…
Real teaching can only begin once you know what they don't know or falsely believe.
He gave her the opportunity to confess, so beautiful… " to receive mercy and find grace in time of need"
I heard someone comment recently that by calling her out like that Jesus legitimized her healing so that she would not walk away from this feeling like she had stolen something from God. Also, my own observation is that according to Leviticus, her touch was supposed to have made Him "unclean until evening" but Jesus proved Himself Lord by this confession and alleviated any guilt she might feel for (in her mind) defiling Him.
Or in other words: it was a rhetorical question.
I've been wondering about this recently… Understanding that Jesus was omnipotent prior to the incarnation and after the resurrection, but knowing that He had set aside His divinity (Php 2:7), were Jesus' earthly miracles performed by His own power or by the power of the Holy Spirit through Him?
In Matthew 12:22-32 Jesus heals a man who was blind and mute. The Pharisees claimed He did so by the power of Beelzebul. However, Jesus implies that by saying that, the Pharisees has blasphemed the Holy Spirit, not the Son. So at least that miracle seems to have been performed through Jesus, but by the Holy Spirit.
Now, the lady with the issue of blood…Jesus was on His way to see the girl who was dying and so His attention – humanly speaking – was towards this girl and her father and so He did not see the woman. The Holy Spirit would have and would have elected to heal her through Jesus when she touched His garment.
This act of healing, as He perceived 'power go out from Him', may have caught Him off guard and, being in fellowship with the Holy Spirit (and the Father, of course), He wished to see who had been healed by the Holy Spirit through Him and so He asked who had touched Him and then gave her His blessing.
This is just how I've been thinking about it. Sean, or anyone else, I'd appreciate hearing some thoughts on whether this is a sound line of reasoning or if we should look at this differently. 🍻
I'm an atheist, and I know everything in the universe.
Feel free to try to disprove me.
He didn't know, because he is not God.
I agree with this but it’s still under a couple impressions. Firstly, just because Jesus is God does not quantify what that means and in what way. A piece of a whole, part of the collective consciousness of God, literally God, connected to but in some other way, etc. It’s also under the impression that God is all knowing which is never ever stated in the Bible. Let’s make that very clear, the omnis are not present in any form in the Bible. Very knowledgeable is not all knowledgeable. Even if he was literally God himself which he absolutely wasn’t if the scriptures are interpreted properly, he still might not know. I do in this instance completely agree that was the case
Ibelive you right buddy
That's definitely a possibility! I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he actually didn't know, as he emptied himself when he took on human form. Not worth being too dogmatic about this either way. At the end of the day, Jesus is Lord and God!
Or maybe he simply didn’t know, just like he doesn’t know the day or the hour of his own return.
At times when I've been so very sick God has brought that lady to my mind and I've prayed to have the faith to reach out and touch the One who wants the best for me.
Lawyers are often taught to never ask a question in court to which they did not already know the answer.
Thanks, Sean. How about Mark 13:3? How do I explain that one?
