Script:
I am a person of Denmark, the Disneyland of socialism, where everyone is healthy and thrilled.
Forget the Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela and all those power-mad Marxists who got it inaccurate. Denmark is the design to follow.
There’s just one problem. It’s a dream.
For it to be genuine, Denmark would have to be a socialist country. Sorry to bring all the brand-new fans of socialism the bad news.
Yes, it’s real that Denmark has high taxes and a high level of federal government costs– crucial functions of a socialist mindset. In almost every other regard, Denmark is a full-on free enterprise capitalist country.
And it has a few of the greatest securities of personal property rights worldwide.
And it’s a particularly simple place to open a company. According to the World Bank, there is less governmental bureaucracy in Denmark than in any other nation, except for New Zealand and Singapore.
And the labor market is less regulated than in the majority of countries. Here’s something you most likely didn’t understand: there are no base pay laws in Denmark.
It’s not surprising then– or perhaps it is surprising, supplied all the incorrect details out there– that Denmark ranks frequently as one of the top-ranked free enterprise economies around the world by The Fraser Institute in Canada and The Heritage Foundation.
So, if Denmark is not a socialist country, what is it?
The action is quite simple: it’s a little capitalist nation (about the size and population of Maryland) whose citizens pay loads in taxes in exchange for thousandses in advantages.
Well, what’s incorrect with that? you might ask.
Just this: for the federal government to pay such advantages, you require individuals to make enough cash to pay the essential taxes.
Which’s simply possible through a capitalism economy.
Let me discuss– with some Danish history.
Denmark, like its Scandinavian neighbors, Sweden and Norway, made a fantastic financial healing after the Second World War. The combination of an exceptionally efficient work force and– get this– low taxes produced a lot of wealth.
Like every other wealthy welfare state, Denmark succeeded before it established the well-being state.
Relative to Europe, Denmark’s financial high-water mark stayed in the 1950s; relative to the United States, it was the early ’70s. It was then, in the late ’60s and early ’70s, that the country’s ruling elite wound up being preoccupied with wealth redistribution. The cost paid for this social experiment was high and swift.
The growth of public spending caused a serious economic crisis. The nationwide financial obligation escalated. It took years of combination, structural reforms and decreasing of wellness plans to correct this mess.
This is the stuff you never find out about from the “Danish model” crowd.
The sharp tax hikes and costs also activated an extensive popular revolt and caused the introduction of the “tax protestors” celebration, Fremskridtspartiet. Although the celebration no longer exists, the prevalent desire to cut taxes stays.
