There are nearly no concerns where I don’t understand both sides: tax, the size of government, abortion, socialism, commercialism. As strongly as I feel about any concern, I understand the opposition.
There is an exception: the death charge for murder. Here, the gulf is unbridgeable between those of us who think that some killers– and I highlight some killers– should be put to death and those who think that no murderer ought to ever be put to death.
Take this example:
On the afternoon of July 23, 2007, in the town of Cheshire, Connecticut, two men broke into the home of Dr. William Petit, his better half Jennifer and his two children. The guys beat Dr. Petit nearly to death with a baseball bat; among the guys raped the medical professional’s better half; and the other man sexually assaulted their 11 year-old child, Michaela. The two males then strangled Mrs. Petit to death, tied down the two children on beds, splashed them with gasoline, and, while the women were still alive, set your home on fire. Dr. Petit endured, but his better half and daughters did not.
Is there anything a person can do to should have the death charge? You heard me ideal– most opponents equate the murder of an innocent family with putting the murderers of that household to death.
Opponents of capital penalty also argue that keeping all killers alive sanctifies the value of human life. But the reverse holds true. Keeping every killer alive cheapens human life because it belittles murder. That’s easily proven. Envision that the penalty for murder were the exact same as the punishment for driving over the speed limitation. Would not that belittle murder and thus cheapen human life? Obviously, it would. Society teaches how bad an action is by the punishment it portions.
And what about the discomfort inflicted on the loved among those murdered? For the majority of people, their suffering is immeasurably increased knowing that the person who murdered their family member or buddy– and who, in most cases, inflicted unthinkable horror on that individual– lives and being taken care of.
Naturally, putting the killer to death doesn’t bring back their enjoyed one, however it sure does supply some sense of justice. That’s why Dr. Petit, a physician whose life is dedicated to saving lives, desires the killers of his better half and daughters put to death. In his words, death “is really the just real just punishment for certain abhorrent and base murders.” Is the physician wrong? Is he unethical? Well, if you think capital punishment is immoral, then Dr. Petit is immoral.
Since opponents of capital penalty oppose the death charge even when there is absolute evidence of the killer’s regret. If there were a video of a male burning a household alive, challengers of capital punishment would still oppose taking that male’s life.

Are there situations under which a killer should have the death penalty? You heard me right– most opponents equate the murder of an innocent household with putting the murderers of that household to death.
Of course, putting the killer to death doesn’t bring back their loved one, but it sure does offer some sense of justice. That’s why Dr. Petit, a doctor whose life is dedicated to saving lives, wants the killers of his other half and children put to death. Due to the fact that opponents of capital punishment oppose the death charge even when there is outright proof of the killer’s guilt.
