Imagine your father expected you to grow up to be President of the United States.
Now imagine you did.
That was John Quincy Adams.
His father, John Adams, was a leading figure in the American Revolution and the second President of the United States.
That’s a lot to live up to.
But John Quincy did it… and more.
Born on July 11, 1767, near Boston, he grew up in a time of turmoil. At the age of seven, in 1775, he watched the Battle of Bunker Hill from a hilltop near his family home.
In 1778, Congress sent his father to Paris to help convince the French to support the American War of Independence. John Quincy traveled with him – a ten-year-old diplomat in training.
And what a training it was.
For the next seven years, in addition to France, John Quincy lived in Great Britain, the Netherlands, Russia, and Sweden, learning first-hand the art of diplomacy.
By the time he returned to the United States in 1785 at the age of 18, he had absorbed not only the customs of these countries but learned to speak their languages as well.
After graduating from Harvard, he took up the law. But reading legal documents all day bored him to tears. The world was changing fast, and he wanted to be in the middle of it.
Which is right where he landed.

he's also the very first Prez that we have a photograph of.
Great history lesson
My maternal grandfather's great-great grandfather was William H. Crawford, one of the candidates for President when the election went to the House for decision in 1824.
Weren't we just an Eisenhower? I thought these were chronological.
The Monroe Doctrine held until Jokebiden came along… Russian warships in Cuba anybody??
Y’all should collaborate with David and Tim Barton of Wallbuilders. They are experts on our Founding Fathers and the beliefs of our country.
America NEEDS to acknowledge her SINS!
America is an EVIL, White-Supremacist State!
Thank you for making these videos. I learn a lot about our history with each one.
Arguably, at that time, Congress had more power.
he also disaproved of the mexican american war
Adams lived such a long life that he was alive when the Mexican American War ended on 2/2/1848 , 3 weeks before he died
You forgot his famous quote, "duty is ours; results are God's" as he fought against slavery.
Thank God for Prager University. My nephew and niece now know more about American politics and history than any of their peers in class (they are 12 and 14 respectively). I know more about American politics and history than anyone I know…and this is all 100% due to Prageru.
I, personally, am very grateful for these videos.
And so sayi8ng, it is one of the greatest tragedies of all time that all those many who "couldn't care less" about things to that don't give them an instant kick of artificial energy or "good vibes" aren't made to watch these so they can, hopefully, be less of a complete and total narcissist and antisocial retard.
But what can you honestly expect in 2024?
Now that 99% of people are so corrupt they would rather support the perversion whereby marriage and gender were "redefined" than stand up and Fight for Principle, everyone has been and still is ACTUALLY BEING RAISED to be both a narcissist and antisocial Menace to Society!
But the most political way to sum it up is "Kindness is NOT what you guys think it is, please stop doping your kids on it and start raising them to be DIGNIFIED HUMAN BEINGS!"
JQ Adams: "My Father was President."
G.W. Bush: "Mine too."
Well done!
Prager U. Wishing all college University's taught the way you do. God bless you all.
that's a face for radio if I've ever seen one
The history videos are my favorite from this company.
JQ Adams was absolutely an Exemplary American! The fact that he didn't stop when he couldn't achieve his goals as POTUS shows the true constitution of the man.
"When God calls you to be a ditch-digger, you'd have to take a step down to be President." – Mark Lowry's father
True leaders don't need powerful titles to serve their people.
As someone who grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts, and knows quite a bit of the Adams', you did his story justice.
The Monroe Doctrine was a DEAD LETTER , a one sided declaration with no recognition by anybody else. – the British and French influence remained in the Americas and Spain's declined because of the increase in British influence following from the Peninsular War. More propagandist nonsense.
More nonsense about the Napoleonic War in North America 1812-15 being a 'victory' for the US.
Britain had no territorial claims on the US. Madison attempted to take over Canada and was DESTROYED in the process, Buffalo razed, New York declaring itself neutral, the coastline depredated by the Royal Navy, the Congressional forces routed at Bladensburg, the Capitol, White House and other parts of DC burned down, Madison doing a runner; Baltimore besieged and no counter attack from it.
If the US 'won' it was uniquely the only Bonapartist confederate which did. Just what did the US gain from a victory which had clear aims and failed in.?
The Treaty of Ghent followed from the general European settlement of status quo ante and the US had to accept it could not claim Canada and that all territorial disputes to the West would be settled by negotiation.
I’m related to both JQA and JA! 3rd cousins!
PragerU is Israeli propaganda but John Quincy Adams is still goated
Ah, the first stonewalling by democrats. Oppose the president at every turn, preventing him from taking action, then criticize him for lack of action to win the following election. A tactic they've used at every opportunity since.
JQA was a great American and like his father he was the son of Braintree, Massachusetts.
Love watching these videos on history
In his final term, he would serve as mentor to Abraham Lincoln and would pass the torch on to him.
Fun fact: John Quincy Adams would go for skinny dips in the tributary of Timber Creek, apocryphally it was during one of these swims that Anne Royall became the first woman to interview a sitting US president by gathering his clothes and sitting on them until he agreed to answer her questions.
