15:00 Because Jesus’s moral code is one that gives a voice to every individual. This makes his code the best code to follow.
13:27 If Jesus is not god. Is not god still god?
Love Dr Kruger, have his books on the canon revisited…….
Thanks Sean!
The term “homosexual” didn’t exist until 1892. Some modern Bible translations say that “homosexuals” will not inherit the kingdom of God, but neither the concept nor the word for people with exclusive same-sex attraction existed before the late 19th century. While the Bible rejects lustful same-sex behavior, that’s very different from a condemnation of all gay people and relationships Sodom and Gomorrah involved an attempted gang rape, not a loving relationship. It’s commonly assumed that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah out of his wrath against same-sex relations, but the only form of same-sex behavior described in the story is an attempted gang rape — nothing like a loving, committed relationship. The Bible explicitly condemns Sodom for its arrogance, inhospitality and apathy toward the poor — not for same-sex behavior.
After reading Charles Finney's systematic theology I decided to go to the United Church of Christ, a progressive Christian Church. They believe in the Trinity. They do believe that the Gospel should have an impact on the socially oppressed people. Freeing slave, women's suffrage, the temperance movement, the holiness movement, the civil rights are movements were all the result of their theology. The Southern Baptist Church and many of what you call historical Christian Churches have opposed social change. If you read Justin, or Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus or others of the early Church they do not speak like you do about historic Christianity. Irenaeus believed strongly in the concept of Jesus as an example. Clement of Alexandria said that "the highest and most perfect good is when one is able to lead someone from wrongdoing to right doing which is the very function of the law". Origen believed in reincarnation. It would seem to me that you would list all early Church fathers as progressives. Charles Finney said there is only one law and that is the law of eternal benevolence. This is why they fought so hard to oppose slavery even though the Southern Baptist held their Bibles and said, "The Bible says Slave server your masters". Stop continue being a NEW evangelical look at true historic Christianity. Christianity makes progress through history.
They are all going to hell. Jesus would say depart from me, you evil doers. I never knew you.
A very clear and concise explanation of progressive thought. 5 stars for presentation 1 star for his personal adherence to TULIP.
You cannot have two Masters, you love one and hate the other.
Either you follow the Bible or not!
👍
Neither is Reformed theology biblical Christianity.
I appreciate this
What an excellent, helpful convo. Ty!
Jesus wasn't walking around being winsom…he wasn't walking around being rude…but he behaved in different ways for different situations. When he met a pharisees he could make Twitter posts look downright kind. Let's get honest…I mean…if Jesus had gone around being "winsom" so many people would not have hated him.
Hey Sean
Are you monetizing this channel? Do you realize what you are doing?
Thank you for this interview. A family member has gotten into this stuff and it's heartbreaking to see what it's doing to him.
Jesus is Not God, He is the Only Beggotton Son of God, not just a good moral teacher. That's why we are listening to Him!
I would like to hear Dr. Kruger explain what exactly he means by ‘fight for justice' or human reconciliation. Thanks
Modern Progressive Christianity is actually the “offspring” of the merger of the Rationalism of Renee Descartes and the Evolutionary Naturalism of Charles Darwin. This merger has been called “The Cartesian Darwinian narrative.” In 1859 Darwin published his “Origin of Species” which gave impetus to the skepticism of previous centuries. Evolution was considered the “heavy artillery” in the atheist’s war against Christianity. If, as Darwin’s theory goes, all biological life on earth is descended from a common ancestor millions of years ago then it is only logical that “religion” is also evolving with humanity. Since Rationalism rejects the supernatural out of hand only human reason can conceive of truth. Reason is the measure of what is true, not divine revelation. This is the foundation upon which Progressive Christianity rests, regardless of whether it is admitted or not. 😊😊😊
Many leave Christianity because they don't understand the Bible or don't like what it says. I guess because I read so much history that had a lot of war, like China and Europe, i understand why the Israelites wiped out their enemies and plundered afterwards. It was how they lived. Talking wouldn't have worked. They did warn people but were ignored.
Another reason they convert is the misunderstanding of the wrath of God in the Old testament then His love in the New Testament. I think they forgot that Israelites were once called stiff necked. They kept worshipping idols so God kept reminding in a harsh way who their true God was, like a Father spanking his kid. When they got their act together, He decided it was time, found Mary and became Jesus who preached love, and hell and finally exposed the deceivers.
Great interview!
The part about being able to ask questions and have doubts is amazing!!! I grew up Mormon where it was shamed to ever have doubts. They were famous for saying “doubt your doubts” and believed that you could know for certain from a feeling alone.
There is a book called The CES Letter where someone who taught for the church ended up leaving because he had lots of questions about the churches teaches using their own books. They went ignored and have remained so for a decade while the church bleeds membership. Anything on their website that tries to answer these questions, including how church text teaching are hypocritical of each other, are totally white washed and the facts often made up and full of logical fallacies.
So I love that I can go to a pastor with questions and it’s ok because it’s not seen as a threat of me believing still! 😃
MAGAmorons and fundamentalist "Christians" HATE progressive Christianity because it demands that they be decent human beings. If there's anything that fundamentalists despise, it's morality, and progressive Christianity asks them to be moral. Fundamentalists want, above all, to be bigoted, cruel, brutal, violent, greedy, lazy and perverted — and then to get a guaranteed free admission to eternal bliss without ever having to have a single moral virtue. You can tell this when merely quoting the words of Jesus of Nazareth drives them into a furious rage.
Merci beaucoups for this conversation! It was excellent and revealing and soooo thankful and praise for for His word! My my belief is in Jesus, my King And Savior!
I think it's incredibly generous to suppose that progressives are half true. I'd say it's about 20% and that's generous.
Stick to the basics, apply it to your life then study and grow with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
I don't want to meet sean at the poker table. no tells.
As we talk about judgmentalism I think it's important to make the distinction that when God saves us, he gives us a new heart of love and mercy for people which continues throughout our Christian lives. The point is, "For it is God who wortheth in me, both to will and to do of His good pleasure." And, "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." From start to finish it is God brings us salvation and God who then perfects us from the inside out, throughout our Christian lives. This cannot be done by ourselves. Thank you both for your excellent program.
Strange that Judaism in Jesus's day also thought of Him as a progressive heretic, by espousing truths and God given insights deviating fom their scriptural ideology. They murdered him! Thankfully it's far less radical today. Thankfully today Christian religiosity only verbally attacks those, who with the leading of the H.S. have moved on with the certainties of dogma. From milk to meat as St Paul had said in his day. Both Jesus and Paul were mystics, that is experiencing God in reality rather than intellectual adherence to a religious dogma. For those sincerely "seeking to find" we may all be at a different stage in our journey. Let us not disparage one another and focus on ourdelves. Are we a witness to the world of Christ's life in us? (Galatians 1:16) Does our walk match our talk? As for Richard Rohr he has probably validated so much of what many have come to see with the "eyes of their heart." And as for this label progressive Christianity? I despair that the Pharisaical religious spirit in Christianity, is still alive and well. Simply because it relies legalistically on the written word the Bible, rather than the LIVING WORD in us to which it directs progressively from Genesis to the Gospels. And as for so called hell and eternal torment for those in this life who do not see with the "eyes of their heart?" Please check out the most ORTHODOX understanding of the new age to come of all. APOKATASTASIS! It will draw far more to the infinite love grace and mercy of God than putting, metaphorically speaking, placing a gun to someone's head using fear. Thank God for the likes of Franciscan Richard Rohr ex Protestant pastor now Orthodox Brad Jerzak, Paul Young, Brian Zhandt, Brian McLaren and so many more. These courageous Christians who have helped to break the Medieval/Calvinistic/Fundamentalists bias which has done so much in distorting Jesus's message to the world.
FAITH HOPE LOVE these three but LOVE most of all. ❤️👍
Im a Christian and I'm sad that your thoughts about the Bible are excluding certain christians. Here in South Africa your type of Christian teachings leads to the closing of mainstream churches. Because of your inability to change, will kill the Christian religion in the next century
Either you believe in the Bible as God’s inherent Word or you don’t. A lot of people think it’s ok to mur&$@ someone, if they feel it necessary. I would bet the people on these clips would completely deny that a person who “feels” that way is completely wrong.
This so informative…..thanks Sean for having Dr Kruger on your channel.
Progressive Christians don’t like to judge others, unless those others are racists, or think that egalitarianism is wrong, etc.. in those cases they are extremely judgemental. They basically pick and choose which things are to be judged based on their own preferences.
Christianity won’t hesitate to judge sin where the Bible declares it, be it racism or homosexuality.
Of course with judgement there is also the grace of forgiveness offered.
So, basically, number six is the direct move toward narcissism.
Jesus is not God. God is the Father of Jesus. Trinitarianism is the worship of three Gods trying to identify as one.
