  2. This guy is literally incapable of providing a straight, concise, confidant answer. And that’s really all you need to know about him and other “progressive Christians.”

  3. Whew. Don't read the chat comments, fellow PC's! It will drive you mad not being able to correct some of these viewers. The simplest way to explain the difference is the authority of scripture. If scripture says the earth is 6000 years old, and so is creation, yet science has proven that creation was more like 14 BILLION years ago, then you have a dichotomy that has to be addressed before we can talk about the meaning of anything scriptural.

  4. Excuse me, this is an uncomfortable, inconvenient, binary issue. Please consider this: what if Jesus is actually the true son of God, sent with a very important message/purpose?
    He said in no uncertain terms, unless you believe that I am He you will die in your sins. He also said this is the work of God, that you believe in him whom He sent. Forget about church culture and focus on the author and perfecter of your faith.
    The crux of the matter is the crux. Picking up the cross is hard and therefore avoided, rationalized, excused, but please if today He speaks to you do not harden your heart.

  5. What would paradise with God be like if everyone thought God needed to do things their way? What if eternity was all about emotions and victim hood?

    Well I guess His message is to get off the train going the wrong way and get on my train that heads to me. He will actually travel with us via Holy Spirit. When we get there, we get to be perfect like Christ.
    I trust that Heaven will be a peaceful place. It cannot be if some of the folks there want God’s job. Perhaps,they will be a better fit, in a community led by someone who first had that thought. So many gods in one place could have more than a few conflicts. The eternity part then becomes a bummer. Hell is a bummer, God’s Word warns.

    Thank goodness for the “moral free will” along with the conscience that our Creator gave each of us. He will decide which side of impenetrable wall we end up on. It will be an easy decision for Him since each of His children will have decided whether to see Jesus and love Him. If we arrive on the Jesus train, we are His and He is ours.

    Trusting God to be equitable should be intuitive. If we are upset when we see injustice and we are made in His image then it follows that God is all about equity. So how did my wife who was sick for twenty one years get equity. She died praising Jesus. Amazing to watch God work. He made such an ugly thing as death a marvel, an amazing graceful beginning instead of an end. He is trust worthy. What He did inside her amazes me.

  7. squabble, squabble Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. Also, someone can have strong belief but weak faith. Also, most of the comments here talk about the host as being patient and gracious with the guest. I find that interesting. The more conservative folks find this discussion unilateral in that way.

  9. Science doesn't say anything thing scientists do…and they are human….so you should know what that means but there are a lot of examples were scientists allow their worldview to block what science experimentation actually shows.

  11. Let me get this straight. This man supposedly grew up in the church went to a Bible College and he thought Jesus was a white man? Obviously this guy was worried about other stuff. He looks like a Steven furtick type. I could be dead wrong. But he just strikes me as the type and being popular than the actual word of God. I think that's what happened he realize that the world didn't like Christians just like the Bible said so he decided to try and appease the world

  12. I'm having a hard time listening to this guy. First he talking about how he's such a victim because he's been hurt so bad but he has all this joy and forgiveness then he talks about walking away from the truth but not wanting to hear about the consequences

  13. Sean, thank you (and Colby) for doing this. I have heard tho, a couple of progressives make this comment, “We are all children of God.” And that is not true! It is not biblical. We are all “made in the image of God, “but some belong to the devil. John 8:44. I am praying Colby finds truth. He seems confused, and he needs prayer. I pray God will help him!

  17. I feel so frustrated when Christians talk about the Old Testament because it is the Christian vetsion of the Torah. Learn Hebrew and read the Torah or male it clear that you are referring to the Christian version. Otherwise it is just disrespectful to Judaism.

  19. To say "I know some people who have identified as Christians for the last 4 years, but I wouldn't call that Christian".. cements in me that he is simply an activist.. and has such a flawed view of those around him, facts of reality.. and has been mentally brainwashed by the world Propaganda.

The fact is Peter did have his theology about Jesus right and certain 🎉 wen Jesus asked Peter, who do you say I am, Peter didn't get all well Lord I just don't know you could be anyone. No Peter said you are the christ the Son of the living God. We can be certain on most things without being nasty 😢

  23. I Think Colby is so lovely. I don't agree with his belief and understanding of Jesus. But I love his message of love and inclusion. Mix Evangelical and Colbys religion and you have something pretty perfect.

  24. actually sean id be SUPER worried if i were you. colby may be getting this topic wrong and im not sure what all his beliefs are nor how progressiveism goes in christianity, but id say it shouldnt be far from traditionalism. that said, colby may be getting this topic wrong (i can tell you for absolute certain that hes NOT), but say he was, he is STILL spreading the message that Jesus Christ is the 1 true savior, and He forgives, which is what matters at the end of the day. how can you say that the bible says gays are included in those going to hell in 1st corinthians when the bible also says that when u come to Christ, all the sins uve committed or are going to commit are washed away? but not if theyre on this list? what? judge, dont jugde, depends on what pauls mood was while writing the passage. God cannot be "loving" God AND "hater" God. So colby may be wrong on this thing, but still leads people to Christ. your position is pushing thousands and thousands of bleeding people right out of the arms of Christ. worse, ure wrong, b/c God doesnt make mistakes, and he made me so so gay. i tried to convert, and im absolutely miserable alone. id rather be dead. quit faking like you accept gays to their face. you dont respect the fact that this is unchangable and the flaws God made them with BIOLOGICALLY. how dare you sit there with a wife and take the position that i do not deserve to have a 2nd parent for my kids, not a second income to my family. who do u think u r? i grew up in an abusive and fundamentalist christian family, all dobsoned up and i was adhd and odd. so i was beaten w/in an inch of my life on a regular basis, parents tryin to defeat that defiance and all😒😂 mk. i left the church sprinting when i turned 18. id been an extremely devout christian. i love God and i love Jesus, and it took me a long long time to get past His christians and come back. you sir are speaking that God makes mistakes and are driving souls from His church. you absolutely should be worried that if you are the wrong 1, you are in a much much more serious position than colby tryin to share Gods love, especially on this topic. gay is NOT a choice for about 4% of the population, (NOT speaking for that added triangle and all the mentally ill people trying to include their sexual deviences) and im not sure what about my extremely christian environment u think wouldve fostered a dyke, but ud certainly find nothing. being gay has destroyed my life and my chances of ever having 1 person in 8 billion ever love me according to u. if you think i should remain single, you should absolutely be single your self. as soon as i see a healthy normal straight man pastor give up a wife and children for celibacy in solidaridy with gay people, ill stop looking for the right female. might i also add, that if arsen coitai isnt referring to prostitution, but indeed, men in bed with other men, if i am SO inconsequencial that my lesbianism (which was very much alive and well and mentionable BY name AND activity) isnt even referred to 1 single time in the bible then this does not apply to me.   31. Sean, I want to know why even give this man a platform to voice his clearly unbiblical beliefs? And definitely why recommend anyone read his books? He doesn't believe in the trinity, he doesn't believe in the resurrection, he thinks the bible has loads of contradictions and errors. I don't see him as a brother in Christ. He is on his way to new ageism.

  33. I appreciate this interview. I'm pretty sure I saw this gentleman interviewed by another person in regards to progressive christianity and also tried to ask questions to clarify his stance … And it was akin to pushing a piece of cooked spaghetti to move a penny on a table. Thank you for politely and professionally asking Colby about his own writing and book and it is somewhat disheartening that he doesn't seem either 1. Able to, or 2. Wants to clarify or stand for a belief, even regarding his own writings. It seems almost like unitarian, universalism. I appreciate how, what does come forth is that there is work to be done with the "evangelical" community to better communicate truths in love.

  34. Hey Colby. I wd like to recommend say the Bible Project for a consistent understanding of the Bible." God desires mercy not sacrifice" is at the heart of everything! I think it's O.K. to know stuff as long as its evidence based which is what faith is. It's painful to me listening to you trying to stand on shifting sand but I also hear it coming from a place of love for the outcast and rejected. My hope wd be that we would see in the Son of God and the Son of Man hope for the hopeless and home for the outcast.

  35. I was disappointed that the conversation did not revolve around scripture I would’ve like to have understood Colby‘s interpretation of the Scriptures. Next time please make sure you are dealing with what the Bible says nothing else matters.

  37. For me, it's about who God is. Father, Son and Holy Spirit in loving relationship with each other. Inviting us into relationship with them and each other. If this is not you then I wd love it for this to become you. Oh. And I love my Bible.

  38. 1:03 mins in – the scriptures aren't god, words in a sacred book, divinely inspired or not, are not god in 'his' entirety. When does such allegiance become dogmatic reductionism, biblical literalism, indoctrination? Stop idolising the tool and the god, relativising 'him' into an 'absolute truth'. Well done Sean for having this conversation, it's important to be uncomfortable, which you clearly are at points, as is Colby, but dialogue is better than war! Which is the bloody history we've got to learn from, so nice one man, keep it up.
