Public schools aren’t the answer for everyone. They weren’t the answer for me. Schools in my area in Jacksonville, FL operated less as locations of knowing and more as warehouses to keep kids off the street. I understand– I was among those kids.
And the only method to do that is to supply moms and dads and students an option. There has to be an alternative if a student can’t get the education they need at their public school.
Luckily, there was for me.
My early years in my Jacksonville school were not a success, to put it mildly. I seldom understood the lesson. I was frequently confused and dissatisfied. I ‘d ask my trainers concerns, however it appeared to me that this merely upset them. I stopped asking issues and I withdrew into myself. I stopped working 3rd grade– twice. Fourth and 5th weren’t better. I snapped by entering battles with my classmates. D’s and F’s filled my progress report. I was going no location. I was merely another black kid in the storage facility.
She had one bypassing idea: to get me into a better school. An exceptional education, she knew, was the only method to leave the hole I had in fact dug myself into. She discovered about another school– a private school.
