Script:
There’s a book you can read to your kids that will make your task as a parent a lot much easier.
This book will teach them lessons in character, how to distinguish right from incorrect; about determination, gratitude and regard. Which’s in the opening chapters!
Moms and dads have actually read this book to their kids for a long time. It’s one reason it’s a continuous best-seller.
This book, naturally, is the Bible, and you do not have to be religious to read it. And your kids do not have to be religious to enjoy it and get a great deal out of it.
Decency, generosity, sacrifice, charity and altruism– they’re all right there.
Consider the story of David and Goliath.
Nine feet tall, clothed in armor, Goliath is the most fearsome warrior of his day. He’s 9 feet high, for goodness sake!
No Israelite, that’s for sure … except for one. A slim shepherd kid named David. This boy has three things opting for him– guts, a sling shot and faith that God is with him. As he strides out onto the battleground to deal with Goliath in single battle, he holds the future of the Israelite country, not to mention his own life, in his hands.
Wrapped up in all of this tension and drama are important lessons that any kid can benefit from. Isn’t that the kind of strength we desire our kids to replicate– to be able protect themselves and, later, their households, and their country?
Or how about the story of the bros, Cain and Abel? When God favors Abel’s present, Cain permits jealousy to overwhelm him. God speaks to Cain and informs him, ‘I understand you’re feeling mad, however you can get rid of those sensations and master them.’
Cain does not listen, doesn’t manage his jealousy– and kills Abel. When God asks Cain: “Where is Abel your sibling?” Cain says and lies, “I do not understand,” and after that: “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
” Yes” need to have been Cain’s answer to his own concern.
We are accountable for ourselves and we have an obligation to others. We all have enthusiasms and feelings. God has offered us the tools to master those feelings. If we are live an ethical and productive life, and master them we need to.
Essential of all, life is a present from God. We have no right to take it away from the innocent. Murder is wicked. All these lessons are contained in this one story.
The stories of David and Goliath and Cain and Abel are just 2 examples of the many important lessons the Bible offers to kids. Think of a lesson and there’s a Bible story to teach it: about household dynamics, relationship, forgiveness, leadership, humility; about what is necessary and what is not.
The Bible likewise teaches children– more effectively than any book ever– that they are not the center of the universe. Children who internalize this lesson are much more most likely to be kinder and more mindful of how they behave than those who do not.
