One of the most considerable occasions of this century occurred in the early afternoon of August 9, 2014. It occurred in Ferguson, Missouri, a city on the borders of St. Louis.
Embedded in the popular mind is this occasion that if you simply state the name “Ferguson,” everybody knows what you’re discussing: authorities brutality and racial oppression.
President Barack Obama referred to it in a speech before the United Nations in September 2014: “I understand the world also noticed the little American city of Ferguson, Missouri, where a young man was gotten rid of, and a neighborhood was divided. So, yes– we have our own racial and ethnic stress.”.
The president downplayed the case. The shooting in Ferguson triggered nights of riots and supplied fuel to a new social movement, Black Lives Matter.
Used its historic significance, it would work, then, to guarantee we have our realities straight. Here’s a test to evaluate your knowledge.

A young, unarmed black male, Michael Brown, 19, was eliminated by a white police officer, Darren Wilson.

Before Michael Brown was shot and killed, he raised his hands above his head and yelled, “Hands up. Don’t shoot.”.
False.
Federal investigators from the Department of Justice discovered no trustworthy proof that Brown ever raised his hands in a “do not shoot” gesture– or in any approach followed the officer’s commands for him to give up.
The federal report concluded that “… witnesses who at first defined Brown had his hands up in surrender recanted their initial accounts, admitting that they did not witness the shooting or parts of it …”.
Detectives also concluded Brown never ever said the now distinguished expression.
