7:40 tell that to african neo-monarchs.
More excuses. I'm Ukrainian. I speak perfectl English. Just more coddling of how pathetic blacks are. The eternal victim. I say let them do it and fall further behind.
Black English is just an excuse used for stupid people that can't learn to speak. You know who you "IS." HAHA
White scholars mastered African languages as a hobby………….Let that sink in.
Chomsky problem is he's a linguist, not a historian or economist
if the blacks run owm corporations their slang would become second language and formalised and used in schools with organised grammar
In fact, there is not such thing called “black English” because its origin goes back to Ireland and Scotland. The Irish and Scottish immigrants, who initially didn’t speak English fluently, settled in southern states. Thus, creating this ghetto language and culture which southern blacks inherited as result.
Ebonics is slave talk. Why perpetuate that? Also, English is strictly a white language, from the UK. Period. Every other black person speaks their country's language beautifully, but not blacks in the US. Vast majority speak like they are on the plantation. I would be mortified to keep talking like that….
Wow! Thomas Sowell. I would love to meet him.
In Singapore they don't call "Singlish" a separate language. In fact the government of Singapore consider it a form of ghetto English by less proficient speakers.
I don't think that Noam Chomsky believed his own words. He was using his position and the trust people have in his linguistic skills to push a false narrative, in order to further his personal political views.
There is not such thing as proper English and improper English. There in business language and professional language. Everything else is just communication and people are free to communicate however they Choose. Creole type languages are the indigenous language of black races which directly coincides with what is called black English is is the historical norm. To revert back to it does not mean a lack of intelligence it means you are tuned to your genetic history.
As a European who works with Americans on daily basis I can definitely tell that educated blacks do not speak ebonics.
Ebonics is nothing more but slave talk
Ebonics is NOT a language it's slang, it's poor speech, you wouldn't say a country person pronouncing poorly is Rendneckian or Hickari
If black people “had all the power” or were the ones to colonize America, then they would be speaking Swahili. Not a sub par form of English. Power isn’t the issue. There are languages that exist and there are rules for speaking them. If you are going to speak a language, you should speak it with its proper grammatical rules.
That is not racism or a cultural issue.

"Black English is considered not quite proper English. On the other hand, if blacks happened to have all the power and owned all the companies, …, it would be the other way around."
No, Mr. Chomsky, it weren't that way because "black" English I bound to a subculture which prevents its bearers from becoming entrepreneurs in the first place.
"Black" entrepreneurs would speak standard English.
As I learned by your video on the origins of "black" culture, "black" English isn't even a genuinely "black" thing but rather a southern thing originating from certain parts of England.
Even more so as the defenders of "black" English gatekeep their language, denouncing any white person who dares to use it or cultural appropriation.
By doing so and accusing standard English speaking "black" people of "acting white", they undermine the ability of "white" and "black" people to even talk to one another.
I never cared enough to give it much thought until I got old, after black slang evolved through the mainstream and our reliance on technology to write to where it now includes words and sounds and phrases I do not understand. This can be problematic when trying to communicate. Especially if you're a television news anchor unaware that apparently not everyone is allowed to say "nizzle."
How racist. They should be enforcing Appalachian English in schools. 😅
Cultural relativism… the excuse that keeps on excusing! Another aspect of "tolerance" that does more harm than good, and those seem to be piling up fast these days.
Languages form when sufficient communicative experience facilitates unique words. In other words, when your dialect has enough *unique concepts*, *expressed using community-specific analogies*, you may split off. For now, what they're referring to as "Black English" is more or less a pidgin English. It doesn't have enough words to stand on its own. Once a sufficient number of black individuals have enough unique expressions, they can split off.
However, this requires that stories be passed down. It requires a solid grasp of the world, and of other peoples. It requires that there be black writers, poets, scientists, and other significant figures.
I'd love to see a dialect split off American English. As an amateur linguist, it would be an exciting development. But I'm anxious that "black English" will remain a pidgin language for now.
The Left can always find an excuse for selling the cheap product to blacks whilst telling them it's superior.
Regardless of whether black colloquial language should be used in education, I have never understood why some black people would want to speak in the manner of the slave masters of their antecedents.
This just proves you can have a high IQ and say something completely stupid.
It is simple. There is a time and place for everything. Formal settings need formal language. Informal ones do not. It's called poetic license.
Thomas Sowell the lapdog cultivated by Jewish capitalists, is not black American. And you're still motivated at 92 years old, to spend your last days propagating made up economic theories for predatory billionaire bankers.
Noam Chomsky is a complete mor*n. "Black English would be the language of … and SCIENCE…" – Brooohahhhhhahahahaha! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Science!
yo.. if I covered my ears while my mom was talking to me…she would of beat my a$$. I guess thats why i'm a well adjusted and considerate person as an adult. LOL
Is Noam Chomsky on drugs? 😂😂
Wow… That professor in the beginning should've been fired a long time ago.
Good bless you all for making these points and trying to truly help each other and new generations. Lord jesus christ have mercy on us amen ❤
I was once told by my British lit teacher in school that your vocabulary can determine the bounds of your understanding. Meaning that the more rich your understanding of language and it's use the easier it is to grasp new concepts and ideas. Also the greater ease with which you can get across your own ideas and concepts to others. A broken version of any language does not help the person using it, in fact it can limit them in many ways which means promoting it is no different than holding that person back from being the most they can be.
Do they teach 'hillbilly' in school? No, well no 'ebonics/jive' either
English is the language of the air 😎
Keeping them in ghetto.
Tribalism speaking slang etc is the antithesis to propaganda ideology
When I'm interviewing a black candidate for a role, if they say "axe" instead of "ask" or "cent" when it should be "cents," it's a definite turn-off.
PEOPLE FROM AFRICA DO NOT SPEAK THIS WAY BUT SPEAKE BEAUTIFULLY AND CLEARLY !! SO WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU BLACK FOLK IN AMERICA????? NOT BUYING IT ANYMORE!
WHITE KIDS GOT IT HARDER ! DAMN SICK OF THESE EXCUSES !
If an African American is late for work you give him hell.
If it doesn't stop you fire him.
If he gets hungry he'll get the idea being on time is important.
If you give him food stamps he'll never learn his lesson.
It's really just that easy.
