No document in world history so altered the world for the better as did the Ten Commandments. Western civilization– the civilization that established universal human rights, developed women’s equality, ended slavery, created parliamentary democracy to name a few special achievements– would not have established without them. As you will see when each of the Ten Commandments is explained, these rules are as appropriate today as when they were offered over 3,000 years earlier. In reality, they’re’ so pertinent that the Ten Commandments are all that is needed to make an excellent world, a world without tyranny and ruthlessness.

Think of further a world in which no one coveted what belonged to their next-door neighbor; a world in which kids honored their mother and daddy and the family unit grew; a world in which people obeyed the injunction not to lie. The recipe for an excellent world is all there– in these ten superb commandments.

There is a catch. The Ten Commandments are predicated on the belief that they were given by an Authority greater than any guy, any king, or any federal government. That’s why the sentence preceding the Ten Commandments asserts the following: “God spoke all these words.”

You see, if the Ten Commandments, as great as they are, were provided by any human authority, then any individual could say: “Who is this guy Moses, who is this king or queen; who is this government to tell me how I should act? Okay, so why is God essential to the Ten Commandments?

I have no doubt that if you’re an atheist and you say you think murder is wrong, you think murder is wrong. You see, even if you figured out murder is incorrect on your own, without God and the Ten Commandments, how do you understand it’s incorrect? Since without God, incorrect and best are simply personal beliefs.
