Understanding South Korea’s COVID-19 Response
There’s an outpouring of acclaim for South Korea’s strategy, which enabled it to be one of the few countries to “flatten the curve.” Seoul implemented rapid and extensive testing, combined with high-tech monitoring and public notifications to identify and contain new cases. While South Korea’s testing program has become the gold standard, it comes at a potential cost in civil liberties that other nations may not seek to emulate.

Some countries misunderstood about the tracing. Korean people are very sensitive about personal information, they will sue or protest if personal information is leaked.
(Korean citizens protests if they feel like they are taking advantage of, remember they put the last president to prison by protesting for weeks!)
When a person gets infected, the infected person tells and shows credit card info to show where they went. The government collects that info and send an urgent text message to people who are nearby that area. An infected person is shown as number (person #1.. #2. so you do not know who they are) You have to remember Korea is one of the most advanced countries when it comes to Tech. It is fairly easy to do this type of thing.
About the delivery culture, Korea has a fast delivery system, you can order pretty much anything, it will deliver 7am the next morning. People do not have to go to the market.
It makes easy for people to self-quarantine.
Small price to pay so other people can live
The government can access to the credit card history and CCTV, and GPS history for contact tracing so that any people or places that were in contact with the confirmed patient to be tested or disinfected. But any personal information of the cinfirmed patient, such as name or address is not shared with the public so the public doesnt know who the confirmed patient is. The whole point of contact tracing is to let whoever in contact with the confirmed patient tested, and whatever place the patient have visited disinfected. This will provide citizens a sense of safety. By doing this, South Korea could prevent the virus spread. South Korea is the only free democratic country that has the virus under control without a single shutdown or lockdown and it was made possible bcz of 3T's; test(massive testing), trace&track(people or place in contact with the confirmed patient), treatment( quarantine everyone who is confirmed positive). That is why South Korea didnt have to sacrific its economy while controlling the virus spread unlike in many western countries that imposed lock down or shut down. South Korea is.controlling virus spread successfully and has never shut down or locked down. All the businesses have been running as usual esxcept for schools
Privacy can't come first over public safety in a war situation like Covid19.
because it's a matter of life and death of majority of citizens
and What's your definition of 'Privacy'? Let innocent people infected to keep the privacy of the infected? LOL
S Korea is using the technology to track the infected person and informs the public only the trace info without revealing personal information of the infected,
and you think it's a privacy issue?
The title of this video should've been ' Our excuses of failing to protect our people from Covid19'
There's an old saying, that goes like this,
"Those who succeeded try to find a hole in their own armor while those who failed try to find a hole in opponents' armor".
This clip seems to be made by the one who has the sence of inferioty and pitiable social infrastructure.
Korea is a free society.
I feel really safe in Korea now.
This video is
ridiculous. Why? Because it doesn't tell the truth.

AND WE HAVE THE NSA. AND ORGANIZATION LIKE CIA AND FBI. OH WELL I GUESS THEY HAVE A TRUSTED GOVERNMENT THAT HELPS SAVE ITS PPL WHEN NEEDED AND NOT TO KILL AND POISON THERE OWN LIKE US. WHEN A CONTAGION OUTBREAK DESTROYS OUR WAY A LIVING SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE OR WE ALL DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH. I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE A RIGHT WING ORGANIZATION BUT STOP LYING TO PUBLIC W PROPAGANDA
Bullshit. I'm an American citizen living in South Korea. The level of access the government has is nowhere near what this fear-mongering video implies. My personal data is still safe. They are only accessing the cell tower (NOT personal GPS) data for contact tracing. The CCTV network allows me to roam anywhere in the city at 2 am without any fear of violence. I can leave a wallet at a cafe and it will still be there hours later. "Free" society means living without fear. That's what South Korea allows its citizens to do.
S.Koreans allow their government to trace individuals only in emergency. But the government can't go too far. S.Koreans always claim their right as a citizen to watch the goverment with great transperancy in return.
양날의 검. 어쩔수없음.
Hmm… you can sacrifice your privacy by telling them that you were shopping and going to places, or you can sacrifice your right to do practically anything that is considered non-essential. It's not that lockdown is NOT a restriction of your freedom. They are just different types of freedom being restricted differently. I'd choose the former over the latter, to be honest.
What kinds of rights can be more important than the right to live? You are missing a serious point.
How much freedom does shelter in your home provide?
Since you guys seems to be so critical of Korea's approach of surveillance, surely you must be against the Patriot Act that spies on Americans.
'But many of their tactics would be difficult to emulate in a FREE society'
Excuse me????????? I never thought that my freedom is being restricted! (except for studying…
Please do some research before making vids.. I don't want people to have misknowledges
Yeah and its thanks to that freedom that people didn't take the virus seriously. Didn't follow guidelines for social distancing going to beaches for spring break, non essential businesses open not because they were so concerned for their employee's but because of greed, putting their employees and families along with the rest of the community at risk. Governors refusing to shut states down even though it was so obvious that the situation was getting worse and worse. What's the point of having freedom if your not making smart decisions. This video criticizes S Korea but right know they have more freedom and are able to continue with their normal lives, go to work, go out and do things. There country is still going whereas we are stuck at home , cant go to work, worried about paying the rent and food. So who has more freedom? What's the point of having freedom if we are not making smart decisions and most importantly don't have a good leader.
Please!!! dont believe on KOREAN !! they ARE BENEFETING from this tough situation!, please THEY ARE EYEING ON MONEY they are much worse than CHINESE !! for selling MEDICAL KITS AT HIGHER PRICE!! not because they successfully handle the virus, WE SHOULD NOT BELIEVE THEM!! WE SHOULD NOT promote!! they are not helping!! they are eating us ALIVE!! they must learn their lesson!!
Another arrogance.
보수 정권에서 이룩한 제도. 대한민국에서 가장 보수적 집단인 의사들의 노고마저 가로채는 사회주의 정치인들의 가증스러움.
Many countries are as prepared for the epidemic as Korea.
Korea is not the only country that prepares for epidemics.
It's the opinion of a bunch of people who are putting money on the Heritage Foundation.
Captain America: "Price for Freedom is High"
South Korea's price for Freedom: Security, High-tech monitoring and public notifications, Freedom of speech and protests, No Guns = Free World
United States of America's price for Freedom: More Guns, Overly expensive Health-insurance, Freedom of speech and protests, More Guns = Free World
Shame on you!!! At least, your foundation do something for anyone who fight for this deadly virus.
In contingency situation, just like a war, South Korean could think that the private right must donate for the great society benefits temporally. COVID 19 is regarded as a war now Of course, out privacy must be kept in normal situation by law
Your LIMITED personal data or Your Grand mother & father lives. YOU CHOOSE!
???? Korea is the only country at this moment that does not restrict the freedom of individual while other worlds are restrict it by punishing, fining, detaining, and deporting. People in Korea can go out anytime they want for shopping, meeting friends, working, and jogging while people from rest of the worlds are quarantined forcibly. Doesn't it cost 'civil liberties'? What a biased and uninformative video!!!
Unfortunately too many Americans are acting like they don't care that the Constitution is being trampled on.
The Heritage Foundation lacks the knowledge of the level of liberty in Korea. Biased!
SK look into people's phone gps data and credit card records and provide tracking information(sans the name! Just the gender, vauge region and age. The public dosen't know who the person is) because Koreans figure it's the lesser restriction of freedom than mass quarantine or lockdowns.
