Sure, there is no denying that it has had an influence. The issue is that it cannot be shown to be any more factually accurate, with regards to the supernatural, than any other theistic myth.
As a scientist, a 2000 year old tome that contained research data would be a priceless thing. But we had so many book burnings
Ask an atheist, are you a good person?
He says, yes.
Ask, good, compared to who?
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Sudarium of Oviedo, Shroud of Turin, WAXS
Great answer, Sean!
Yep, the ignorant and lies in the bible dont' have anything do with us now. We can happily ignore a god that commits and commands genocide, that kills people for things they didn't do and that supported slavery.
No one needs the hate and ignorance of this cult.
Probably because it took a long time for the skill of reading and writing to be spread to people at large and so there was a distinct monopoly on books being published.
What is Biola? Is it Latin?
The fact that you can have a personal objective view and subjectively change views on a supposedly unchangeable truth such as “the word of God” proves that God’s so called word can change depending on how you want to interpret your truth. Ultimately you are God living out your own frame work of a life through other peoples claims through an ancient text.
So books survive and have influence. That doesn’t make it God.
Maybe it has been around long enough to ‘stand the test if time’.
Let’s see how ‘woke culture’ is doing in 20, 40, 2000 years time.
Bible aside, use that argument as a blanket statement and congrats, you got rid of 95% of philosophy and about half of science… what do old books have to do with me? This is not an “atheistic” argument, this is an ignorant and lazy one.
Buhdism shaped Indian culture. Tao for certain Asian countries. Islam for some Middle East countires, thr lost goes on an on. There are probably equal or sinilar claims of Islamoc converts as there are Christians claiming they found wisdom and god that changed their life. Christians will simply claim these are false religions and the "devil," being deceptive. Yet, Christians have thousands of denominations with varyinf differences in the Christian god and Jesus. I dont see anything spectacular or awe-inspiring about that. I see some people attempting to do better in their lives. Sometimes, religion is good. Sometimes it is abhorent. Same with their gods.
I think Richard Dawkins actually said, You can't begin to understand our culture and language if you haven't read the bible.
Well said! ❤
I used to listen to you with respect all the time. I still listen to you, but it's so steering. Granted you're encouraging people to share your world view. But this is only half truthful at best. I do appreciate your desire to help people. But as an ex-christian, the stuff not commonly shared with the people, you're fully aware of, so is your dad and most of your circle. I find it saddening that you mainly state the positives and rarely provide the negative. I know if you're point blank asked, youd do your best to address it, but let's take this video for instance.. I agree that the bible has been extremely influential as you stated and brought about lots of good. However, it has also done a large amount extremely wrong. You can't just have the good as a Christian, although that's what most inevitably do and it's largely bc people that have the scholarly knowledge to share on the Christian side.. DONT. Because it won't fill your pews or validate your current position. What about early Christianities (Marcionites, ebionites, gnostics) that the proto-orthodox had there hand in destroying in order to hopefully win out, then the centuries of corruption to shape and mold it to what it is, the crusades, the dark ages, council of Nicea, Decree of the Council of Toulouse, Council of Tarragona,Ecumenical Council of Constance, Tyndale, Wycliffe, church fathers not letting us own bibles or translate to languages just so the church can think for us.. no ty. Jesus didn't come to bring us Christianity. He was born a Jew, taught the Torah to Jews, died a Jew. But yet Christians mainly follow the idea of Christ but ultimately follow Paul's interpretation.Jesus is the answer?? Then why didn't he preach what Paul preached, and don't say they preached the same thing bc then you're doing what I said above. Sure you can harmonize some of Paul and Jesus' theology, but there are also huge differences and understanding those differences doesn't come from attending church and listening to your alma mater classmates. It comes from studying what actually happened.. not listening to Sean McDowell about his sugar coated version that he feeds you through rose colored glasses. If apologists shared the truth of what we have versus their own personal truth, you'd be out of a job.
Convenience…. George Carlin said it best.
How many palestians Israel killed today????😮😢😢
What is it about a 2000 year old book that has helped it survive for that long? I think it's because it is perfect for supporting hierarchical systems of power that keep people stuck inside the systems because of the fear they have of leaving. Of course there's also ancient wisdom in the Bible, like my favorite verse "Love your neighbor as you love yourself," but arguably the truth of these kinds of statements is just the other half of the carrot and stick method. You don't want to think about the fear of hell if you leave, so you're given these very beautiful passages you can focus on instead. Simply put, surviving for 2000 years isn't a satisfying argument to me for the goodness of a belief system. People stay in abusive relationships for too long, and I would argue people stay in abusive relationships with God for too long as well. I'm not arguing against Christianity as a whole either, just against any belief system that tells people they are going to suffer if they leave the relationship. If you're going to have a relationship with God, I hope you have a healthy one, without the looming threat of hell.
To think there's nothing to learn from the people in the past, shows you how arrogant and empty the atheist movement really is.
Ive read it. Not impressed.
Also, Im smarter than every character in that book.
The same people will look at the writings of Plato and Aristotle and take them seriously, while completely discounting the Bible. The difference is one calls itself philosophy the other religion.
I am lost. Are we talking about the book or the existence of God?
positivity???? Throughout history, more blood has been spilled for religious reasons than any other
You're only a Christian because you had the chance to be born here. Christians love to talk about the influence of Christ and then ask atheists "what if you're wrong". What if you're wrong about the 10000 other religions in the world? You're only a Christian because of chance
I don’t waste my time on the atheist because as much I know their hearts are so hardened but if someone is questioning that’s different
