Why Experiences Must Be Measured Against the Gospel | Part 3 of 3
Brett Kunkle explores how Latter-day Saints often justify their beliefs based on personal experience and testimony. He responds by pointing to Scripture as the proper test for truth, raising the possibility that spiritual experiences can be deceptive—even those that come with apparent supernatural backing. Brett also highlights numerous historical and doctrinal anomalies within Mormonism, such as conflicting accounts of Joseph Smith’s vision and the implausibility of the gold plates story. Finally, he cautions Christians not to make the same mistake, reminding believers to root their confidence in the truth of God’s word, not just personal experience.

@girzwald3 "A person who creates offspring is a mother/father and they are their children. It doesn't matter the method." This is a circular arguement.
@waterplo12
Your ridiculous question of "is the universe his child too" proves how ignorant and misguided you are. You take everything literally, and are completely incapable of employing common sense and logic.
A person who creates offspring is a mother/father and they are their children. It doesn't matter the method.
@girzwald3 "You people and taking the bible 100% literally." This is false and a hasty generalization. I do not take the anthropomorphic terms assigned to God literally and say God has a body of flesh and bone. Why? The Bible says he is spirit and a spirit does not have a body. On top of that the Bible says God is a consuming fire. "…throw away common sense in favor of taking it literally 100% of time lets this kind of misinterpretation happen." This statment I find ironic.
@girzwald3 No we are not Children of God. We came to be because God created us so we are his creation. We are his creation just like everything in the Universe, including the Universe is his creation. Is the Universe his child too? "God effectively disowns us [I assume you mean as children?], then accepts us back. Its a metaphor." This is an assertion where is the evidence? I gave you evidence from the Bible that we are not his children until we are spiritually reborn.
@waterplo12
So we aren't children of God? Then howd we come to be? Did we create ourselves? No. God created us and our spirits, therefore we are his CHILDREN.
God effectively disowns us, then accepts us back. Its a metaphor.
You people and taking the bible 100% literally. Throwing away all logic and reasoning. The bible is full of parables and metaphors, and to throw away common sense in favor of taking it literally 100% of time lets this kind of misinterpretation happen.
@girzwald3 "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:26. There is other scripture like this: Romans 8:14-16, and Ephesians 1:5. We are children of God if we have faith in Christ Jesus. We are not Children until we are adopted and led by the spirit of God. We are not born children of God but are latter adopted as his children.
@girzwald3 I agree with the 3 persons. I said Jesus was praying to the father. To say that the father came down and became Jesus is a heresy called modalism. I don't know what your point is. However we know that there is only one God. So God is three persons in one being.
@waterplo12
See, I believe and Mormons believe the more logical result. That they are 3 separate persons. You would think, that if it were so important, and that it would be called BLASPHEMY at a later date for someone to think that God, Jesus and the holy spirit were 3 separate people, that he would have made that distinction. And that he wouldn't have refered to himself as the SON of God (someone cant be their own father, its illogical and impossible)and jesus wouldnt reference the father
Oh also. So….. when Jesus said he and the father are one…….that means they are the same person.
But when a man and a woman become "one" in marraige…..does that mean they melt together and 2 people become one….litterally?
No, being "one" with something is figurative.
Rule #1 of the bible. Never take it litterally with modern context or language. You take the bible at face value.
Chapter and verse you got that from? What was he saying "I am" to?
Cause the only verse that I could find him saying " I am" to was them asking if he was the son of God.
And why would he continually cal himself the son of God, or refer to God or the father if he WAS the father.
Who was he praying to the garden? Who was he talking to when was on the cross?Who did he commed his spirit to?
Himself?
Your god jesus and holy spirit are same person has more holes than swiss cheese.
I figured it out by reading the New Testament.
Jesus said "I am" the one to the apostles. The Father and I are one.
We are NOT born children of God but adopted into his fold.
It is a blasphemy to claim that God is anything but infinite, omnipotent or immutable.
God was never born to goodly parents, raised and exhalted on another planet.
What you have in Mormonism is a different god made up by a man.
Because times and situations change. You are aware that rules changed all throughout the bible, right? The rules changed from the law of moses to jesus law, but you dont seem to have a problem with that………
How is it blasphemy? If we are all children of God. INCLUDING jesus hence THE SON OF GOD, why are we all not spiritual brothers and sisters.
Show me in the bible where it says specifically that god, jesus and the holy spirit are all the same person. And if they are, why are they constantly referenced as 3 different personages
Its not blasphemy, you just lack understanding of scripture. Jospeh smith, a 16 year old boy could figure it out, why cant you?
No I think it is about searching for the truth.
All of this mormon apologetics is revealing. "I am a good person so I follow Christ" Oh, I forgot to mention that Jesus is my spirit brother. This is blasphemy to the God of Israel and the Bible. Joseph smith was a liar and adulterer. I feel sorry for Emma Smith.
