Why I Love America
Dennis Prager has traveled all over the world. But at the end of every trip, he returns home with a new appreciation for America. Why? Because no country is more open, more generous, and has done more for the cause of freedom than America has.

I am a third-generation American—my parents and my maternal grandmother were born in Brooklyn, New York. But I didn’t know I loved America until my early twenties.
In my third year of college, I studied in England and began a life of travel that eventually took me to one hundred and thirty countries. That was when I began to understand how important America was to the world—and still is. That was when I began to understand how unique America was—and still is. That was when I began to appreciate the decency of the American people.
Being away from America for a year, spending the Christmas season in Morocco, where there was no Christmas season, and ending the year with a month in the Soviet Union, where there was no freedom—this all had a life-changing impact on me. I realized how lucky I was to be an American. I even realized how much I simply enjoyed being an American.
I’ll explain:
1. How important America is to the world.
Without in any way diminishing the enormous sacrifices made by England and France, it was America’s entry into World War I that made the defeat of Imperial Germany possible and ended that horrible war. It was America that made the Allied victory possible in World War II and kept Western Europe free during the Cold War. Thirty-seven thousand Americans died fighting the North Korean and Chinese communist regimes. Were it not for America, all of Korea would have no human rights and would endure the mass torture, starvation, and murder that have been routine in North Korea until today.
The next time you hear the lie that America fought in Vietnam for colonialist reasons, ask that person: Why did America fight in Korea? I’ll tell you why: to stop the spread of communism, the greatest genocidal and totalitarian ideology in history, and thereby enable more than half of Korea to live in freedom. Another fifty-eight thousand Americans died in Vietnam to enable the South Vietnamese to live in the same freedom America made possible for South Koreans. Neither Vietnam nor Korea had any natural resources that America wanted. Americans died in those two countries solely so that their people could be free.
And, without diminishing the role of the great British prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, and the great pope, John Paul II, it was America that ended communism in the Soviet Union, Poland, East Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria, and liberated, among other nations, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
2. America is unique.
America is the only country that was founded not on a race, ethnicity, or nationality, but on an idea: limited government—because the founders of America believed, first and foremost, in liberty. America became the freest country in world history, which is why France gave the Statue of Liberty to one country: America.
And America has given more liberty and opportunity to more people from more nations than any country in world history.
Yes, America allowed slavery in half of its states. But every society in the world practiced slavery. What rendered America unique is that Americans killed one another in its bloodiest war to abolish slavery and that it eventually became the least racist multiracial country in history. It remains the only white-majority country to have ever elected a black leader. And Africans know how good America is, which is why, by the 1980s, more black Africans had come to America voluntarily as immigrants seeking freedom and opportunity than ever came as slaves.

where is the China in two world war
I'm from Indonesia 🇮🇩 and America is my dream homeland and I will start a new life in America because I'm an American Dreamer 🇺🇸❤
God bless the US
I am Honduran , and I love A🇺🇸 ❤
Canadians died in those places too.
I wonder why they can’t solve healthcare issues, homelessness, huge wealth gap, gun violence, car based society and so on and so forth.
😂😂😂
1:29 This is YOUR opinion and NOT HISTORY, Sir.
America is illustrated as a huge rectangle while other countries are represented as small squares?
OK. You're trying to say "America played the biggest role in winning (putting an end to) WW2".
This is pure propaganda. You even portrayed the other countries fighting against fascism as differently sized shapes. Duh
I am from China, but I still love America.❤
Actually, before communism occupied China, we are the strongest allian to the USA and South Korea.
Our great founding father Sun Yat-sen had been supporting the independence and freedom of Korean from 1919. And America supported Chinese army for defeating the invasion of Japanese empire.
But one of the most interesting fact is that, during the Korea War, the seat of China in United Nations was possessed by the ROC, although it lost its all territory on the mainland, it still fight against the North Korea to defend the values of freedom shared by our alliances.
❤❤❤
God Bless America
Vietnamese here, although america have committed some bad things during vietnam war, but still i like america a lot, because i love freedom, democracy and environment in usa.
I love United Sates . God bless USA
As someone who isnt even American, i am pretty pro USA. In fact, i fear US contributions to the world are heavily underappreciated or even ignored. For example, when Russia went through a horrible famine during the 1920s, the US came in with so much humanatarian aid that it was feeding up to 10 million starving Russians, mostly children, per day.
Or the US TB program which is the United States fight to end tuberculosis. It has saved over 50 million lives over the world.
Or even the US liberation of Kuwait, US intervention in Bosnia, US intervention in Yugoslavia, or US intervention throughout Africa to combat the LDA terrorist organization, all of which saved lives that would've perished without US intervention.
Or the US PEPFAR program, which is the US fight against HIV/AIDS, which has over the last 2 decades managed to save 25 million lives in over 50 countries, and also enable millions of babies to be born HIV free. All the while the program managed to provide critical care to millions of orphans and vulnerable children as well.
Or the US aid after WW2 to several countries in Western Europe and Asia, pouring in billions of dollars to help pull them out the debris of war, which ultimately helped reduce mass starvation in destroyed regions.
Or the US humanitarian effort by the name of the Commission for Relief in Belgium which saved from starvation nearly 10 million Belgian and Northern French civilians trapped behind German lines during WW1.
Or the US program by the name of the Presidents Malaria Initiative, which is a US humanatarian effort against malaria specifically in Africa (still ongoing). Over the last 2 decades it has saved 7 million lives and prevented tens of millions of malaria infections.
And thats not to mention the seperate humanatarian aid the US provides to developing countries, which is the most in the world. Through food, water, and other means, America manages to save millions of people that are at risk of starvation or death each year, and the US has been doing this for the last recent decades. The US effort by the name of the Food for Peace program over the last 60 years has reached 3 billion people over the world in situations of hunger.
Just accumulating everything here it can be concluded that America is responsible for saving hundreds of millions of lives, with there being more.
And looking at US wars and interventions since becoming the sole superpower in 1991 (USSR downfall), the vast majority have been justified. The primary ones that have been unjustified were interventions in Iraq and Syria. I could go into detail to defend this view but this comment is long enough already.
Now, America is not perfect. But to objectively judge a superpower we must look at the good and bad that it has done. What we see is the good America has done far outweighs the bad, and what's certain is that the bad America has done can be openly criticized by its own people, which can't be said for some other superpowers (ehm.. China, Russia, Iran).
"It was American entry in the first world war that made the defeat of Imperial Germany possible"
No, it only shortened the war greatly, both sides made no progress on the Western Front and would eventually exhaust themselvs by loss of manpower and resources
"It was America that made the allied victory possible in world war 2"
That is ridiculous to hear, 80% of the German army died fighting the Soviets, British codebreakers made it possibly to easily reveal weaknesses among Germany and destroy German fortifications/submarines/and reveal German air raids, America was the best in providing other allies with equipment and supplies and planning alongside the UK. It is thanks to the nations such as the USSR who kept the majority of the German forces distracted and nations such as UK made it possible to came with plans capable of changing the Western front. In the end, the war ended by collaboration of the Big Three and other allies, not just the USA.
"The war was fought and won by
Russian blood
British intelligence
American technology
-Iosef Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili "Stalin".
The USA fought in Vietnam and Korea to keep them free isn't entirely true either, the USA used "fear of Communism" as an excuse to help them and act as friendly nation just helping other out while in reality they are actually setting up an American friendly government which may not be selected from the people in these two countries, why? To get even more trading partners and spread "American way of life" to other countries and exploit mentioned countries resources and low prices to their own benefit
America didn't defeat Communism and the USSR, it fell apart by Gorbachevs new politics which opened the USSR too fast and allowed the people to more free to the point of management to overthrow the communist government, the failed Afghan war, Tjernobyl and other means such as this which eventually caught up with the fall of the USSR. Gorbachev and his politics, the failed coup in the USSR was the hammer on the nail for the USSR not America. The USSR imploded and fell apart duo to their own failed politics and decisions while America only had to stand and watch.
Interested to hear you talk about "Freedom". Tell me what happened to Socialist leaders chosen by the people in South America or ask the people themselves what happened or ask terrorist organisations across the Middle East where they got their weapons from, you talk about America as a country to brings freedom to other nations, whils you also support dictators and terrorist organisations who is after control and limit the freedom of their own people just to keep power, but hey, atleast these dictators are American friendly and these terrorists organisations would surely not turn against the USA, right?
I want to immigrate to this beutiful country "America"
I love my country and nobody can change that. All countries have some parts of their history where they aren’t proud of but that doesn’t define who they are or their future and it surely doesn’t for America.
Not perfect but the greatest country in known human history. Recent events in Russia/Ukraine and China/Thailand have made me realize once again America's importance.
Nobody should love America. Americans love to hurt and then kill innocent people like me in the end. Americans love to use dangerous black magic to shake an apartment and then i die.
I'm 15 and I will move there wnd get a citizenship
I love America
I love America and i hope i get to live there some day and enjoy the freedom God promised to us
Strange how people often view you negatively if you say you love your country. I love America, but not it's government.
Unfortunately, I'm still in college 🙁 But when I graduate, I hope to look for jobs in the US that'll get me that green card sponsorship!! It's always been my dream to move to America. I just hope to become a citizen on time because I'm 20 now, want to enlist in the Navy reserves once in my life and apparently, some jobs require you to be under 30. But yes, the USA is the best despite comments and trolls all over the internet suggesting otherwise. I just hope I stay away from those and still live up to my dream after college
Great reasons…..not 😂

I strongly agree with Dennis Prager, however this country is falling apart and must lead somehow. My neighbor says we need new blood with fresh blood
The greatest country ever born in human history
The United States of America 🇺🇸
no black Pink. anyway God bless America.
I am a communist and I love America! The real America, not the government leeches or the capitalist parasites, but the American people, culture, and landscape, you people do not love the real america, you love the American government, American plutocrats, and the American military industrial complex.
America is the greediest country in the world no doubt there are many countries way better than America. I wouldn’t want to live in a country that doesn’t give free heath care take a bunch of taxes off people, have a bad education program and I definitely don’t want to live in a country where my kid can get shoot in a place of education as far as I know school is a place where you go to learn you are supposed to feel safe also I definitely don’t want to live in a country where all my food have a bunch of harmful chemicals and artificial products AMERICA IS A SH#T hole and I would hate to me an American and I’m from the Dominican Republic a very poor third world country.
Do some research!!! American healthcare is a joke!! Your police force is so bad!!! Your education system only teaches about your country. I would be ashamed to be an American!!!!!!! How many are murdered per day in America? It's an embarrassment!!!
The americans that I met here in San Antonio-TX are really friendly indeed. I totally agree with James Prager. Friendly decent people definitely.
Here, Dakotah and Cheyenne stand for USA. We are proud to stand for this flag. In US we do trust.
Y'all need to improve from the guy I met that said that thought that the capital of France was Japan 🤦
Limited Government, Freest – 37% income tax…
I am Arabic, and America is not nice to us and has taken our rights and destroyed us
Thank you brother
what a beautiful summary.
I hope it isn't totally undermined by you making some stupid statement like "if you live in freedom, thank the british empire"…
oh wait. you did betray every single thing the founders ever stood for by doing exactly that. oops, I guess.
I am not an American 🇺🇸 but let me love USA
I can’t help loving USA
In the age of 20 I also felt in love USA 🥰
I don’t know why it happens to the people but USA is like a magnet
WHY I LOVE AMERICA SONG 2022!!
America, the abundant, the place I was born
I'll cherish till the day I die.
Where the bones of past heroes lie buried in the ground
Who loved her the same as I.
Her mountains are so tall they reach for the sky
With prairies where the green grasses grow.
There's billions of trees where wild birds nest
With creatures that flourish below.
That blue gold called water with which we are blessed
As raindrops or crystallized snow
Changes to rivers and fresh water lakes
While the winds of our seasons blow.
Some cities have buildings a hundred stories tall
Structures of concrete, glass and steel.
A statue in a harbor, a present from France
Describes how inside, we feel.
That flag on the moon with red and white stripes
Proves America’s dreams come true.
A country of heroes who line up to protect
The past, the present and few.
It’s not a priest that gives us our freedom of religion
It’s not a reporter that gives us our freedom of voice.
It’s not any judge, lawyer, politician, preacher or teacher
But the blood of a soldier that has sacrificed by choice.

So nice to hear something positive about the US, no, we're not perfect, but Prager U actually looks at things in a more Fair and favorable light than many do today. For Instance their videos Concerning the Iraq war / invasion, etc.
The main reason to love America is democracy. I freaking love USA, the best country, where you can work and easily get success. So yeah, love America from Ukraine 🇺🇦❤️🇺🇲
USA is love 💗💗
It is not about the country, it is about the people and the way of thinking. .The Americans work harder than any other nation this is why they have better economic, but that doesn't mean that the way of life is better, because it depends – different people want different things. So if you want to earn money and make career Usa is ideal for you. But if you want to spend more time with friends and family, to think about life and death and why the human came to Earth,if you want to have fun Usa is not your place. Some people prefer New York and fast way of life, other people prefer some village and close to the nature life.If you want to watch good basketball you must watch NBA .Americans are the best. But if you want to watch good football you need to watch in England or Germany .
What i like in Americans is that they are thankful people. They never forget to thank. Also They give a lot of money for charity and always help the poorest countries. And of course i like americans, because they are pioneers. They are innovators. They give the world new things and "know how" all the time (sometimes they don't give it ,but their "know how" is stolen by nations who are not so thankful like the americans)…
I love being here! 👍🏿💕
THE SOVIET UNION COULD OF EASILY WON THEY TOOK BERLIN KILLED TWO MILLION NAZI SOLDIERS IT WOULD PF BEEN LONGER BUT NOT EVEN TOO MUCH LONGER though Western Europe would likely be communist
