Doctors in our country don’t make the decisions, nor do the patients. The insurance companies do. Health coverage is a barrier to healthcare.
So actually I am an American myself and our so called better wait times are a hoax. I have to wait over 3 months to get a colonoscopy because I might have ibd. Also the thing about the government deciding which treatment you get the same thing can be said about private health insurance they already dictate what procedures you should get instead of doctors plus healthcare costs were already outpacing inflation before the ACA. It’s astonishing to see the amount of bootlicking people will do for insurance profits.
Cut the military and use that budget to fund healthcare.
At least in those countries there’s no profit incentive.
Healthcare in Europe IS NOT free. Never was.
Nobody in the world has the amazing quality of healthcare as we do! Can you afford it? No. Do you have insurance? No. But if you did and if you were rich, think of how healthy you would be! Why would you want that hypothetical to change?

Obamacare was by design not supposed to work it was to make such a mess and cause costs to skyrocket that people were screaming for more government intervention and then Hillary was supposed to waltz in and take over the healthcare and turn it into socialized medicine. That’s why he said on 60 Minutes that it would take 15 years , his 8 plus Hillary’s 8 but Trump interrupted that it’s one of the reasons they hate Trump so bad.

Medicare is not free for those on it. Me and my wife's out of pocket cost for Medicare and supplement plans costs over $18,000 per year.

The US has already provided a look into what government-run healthcare would be like. Look no further than Medicare/Medicaid and the VA Hospital system. These services are the worst of the worst.
Much of the long waits in the UK are down to discharging people fit to be discharged but they have nowhere to go such as elderly people, in America you just dump them on the street, the UK does not hold back new prescription drugs either
If you make below the poverty level you get no help from Obamacare and if you live in Texas or one of the other states controlled by asshole republicans you get no help at all. Zero. Nothing.

How do we get the costs to go down though? These prices that hospitals charge insurance is so dumb. My wife has a pregnancy test at the hospital. $400 for a pee stick.

Obamacare paid for my wife's cancer treatment which was quite excellent. A friend of mine had to go to a GoFundMe site to pay for his. Health insurance companies do not provide healthcare. They're designed to make profit for their investors. When President Trump needed his covid treatment he was treated at Walter Reed hospital a government-run hospital with government paid for doctors. He had no out-of-pocket expenses. The average cost for a health insurance policy is the equivalent of $150 per week. And then most cases the doctor has to be in the network of that insurer. Meaning if your employer changes in shorter or you change jobs you may lose access to your current doctor.

We have a public heath program in Australia, what it does, is it sets the scene for reduced competitiveness for private insurance, and makes public health a thing totally based on government budgets for all policies, there is no one left with the motivation or funds to do medical espionage, or litigation, and investigate fraud and malpractice. So the whole industry is basically unregulated, as far as consumer efficacy and satisfaction is concerned.

"Nobody from Texas is going to Canada for medical treatment, it's almost always the other war around" Boy, is he wrong. Just look at all those videos Americans did when they moved to Europe partly to get the medical treatment they need and are shocked by the price they had to pay (or not to pay to be more precise). Quality of medical treatment is on par if not better in Europe than it is in America, at least if you don't include private hospitals which bill you accordingly. It's funny to see how Americans really belive they live in the best country in the world when most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and so on laugh on that statement.
People in England might have to wait a bit for their treatment, but the difference is, everybody has access to it. In America only the "privileged", whose insurance is fine with the treatment or have the money to afford the treament, have access. And to be fair, if you put in the coin in Europe or anywhere else in the world you can also get more privileges if this is your desire.

A robust medical system has a healthy relationship between government and private health sectors.
Obamacare will never work. M4A would work. Our current system is broken. People come to America because they think more cost means it's better which is wrong. No one should go bankrupt from medical costs, everyone should have coverage. The taxes go up but you aren't paying for insurance that you are now so the costs offset mostly. Place like Canada and UK love their Healthcare on both sides for a reason it works. No one loves their insurance here they get what they can afford. We will never be a true first world nation until everyone has coverage it's just a fact the rest of the developed world knows
