Great moral guide…LOL
Leviticus 25:44-46New International Version (NIV)
44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.
Candice, I'm somewhat confused on your thinking. How did you get to your conclusion for both the speaker and the Bible? Christianity in itself is a form of worship, the word itself means "little Christ". Christ himself was threatened, beaten and killed. He rose again on the third day and ascended to heaven. What I'm trying to say here is that there has already been many "threats" made against Christianity. Jesus himself said, "they will hate you for my name". It is completely true Jesus hung out with tax collectors (they were considered the worst people because they were held accountable to no one and chose their own wages which were usually unfair to the taxpayer) and prostitute's plus many more I'm sure (we cannot know for certain who else He may have talked with and/or eaten with). Alan is simply stating that he chooses to talk about social issues because he sees those as a block between them and knowing Christ. Any threat made has already been made and you can threaten to crumble someone's way of life but someone's faith in the only sovereign living triune God cannot. Even if the form of Christianity we see today were demolished (in that all the churches were gone, etc.) God Himself is not dead. This was proven when Jesus died, Niro was in power and Rome as well as all the Christian churches were burned. In that day Niro was Christianities "threat" you could say. But the Christians of that day were still worshipping God in spite of them being persecuted because God Himself cannot crumble or be threatened.
I'm very curious how you got that Paul was wrong for saying that the list of things in Romans that we all struggle with (yes everyone can have sexual thoughts about the same sex, sin does not discriminate). Because of one section out of all the Bible you are saying the word of God is not even God's word. That's pretty confusing since the Bible has actually been proven to be true scientifically by secular scholars. Beyond that the Bible has also been proven correct geographically and historically by secular scholars.
I believed in many things before I became a Christian. I believed people should be able to love and marry whomever, and yes even whatever, they choose. That we were created from space dust and evolved. Just because I believed it didn't mean it was right. Your child hits you because it felt good (my children have often admitted this and I would admit it too that it feels good to hit someone when I felt they deserved or not) yet we teach them not to hit. Why? Because it's not OK to treat others that way. If I am yelling at a homosexual event, "God hates you!" that's not only a lie but it's not Christ like whatsoever. And I don't believe that's what Alan is doing here. We can disagree, that's the beauty of our country. We are allowed to disagree. But bashing on each other (Christians or not) is wrong.
A debate is meant to open up others to ideas. Not to attack one another. I'm sorry that many Christians may be on the attack. I cannot say for certain why they do it but I can say that we need to hold each other more accountable to be Christ like.
So Shlemon is admitting that he views same-sex attracted people as a threat to Christianity. If Paul got it wrong regarding same-sex people in Romans 1, then its proof that the Bible is not the inspired word of a god. Shlemon and many others Christians focus on homosexuals out of their own sense of self preservation. They have built their lives on a religion, and if the religion is proven to be man made, the foundations of their lives crumble.
Because most Christians don't read their bibles and they believe in a mythical god, and they lack basic knowledge of human reproduction. So they clearly don't know that the bible supports abortions and you can use their ignorance to further your anti-abortion goals.
