Why was Jesus anointed with water instead of oil?

Israel’s priests and kings were anointed with oil to set them apart as leaders and God’s representatives. But Jesus was anointed with water and Spirit because he is the ultimate Anointed One. Jesus doesn’t just act as a bridge between Heaven and Earth. He brought Heaven to Earth with the power of God’s Spirit.

  15. Okay. Jesus "baptism" was not an anointing. It was based on the practice of the mikvah. The Jewish practice of purity and cleansing, often associated with righteousness and/or the way of righteousness. Refer to Israel before they took the promised land. The water had nothing to do with Jesus anointing.
    The anointing of Jesus was by the Spirit after the baptism.
    I'm really disappointed how this video misunderstands scripture and Jewish practice.

  16. If you clean with oil, the oil stick and stay there, water clean, stick a bit and evaporate later. Oil is the product of the dead, it fuel fire, water is magical, eventhought it's born from the explosion from the 2 chemicals, hydrogen and oxygen, which are two combustion gas, it put out fire, allow chemical to dillute, give live to the living, cleanse sin for the sinners, which is why it is holy. However, be careful, water is also easy to be contaminated.

    The first message of the church age was baptism with water and Spirit.
    The same message continued on from there to the end of Acts, where men took on the Name and Spirit of Jesus Christ – King of the new and coming Kingdom.

  37. I am not finding an actual answer to the "Why" of water instead of oil in this; it tells an account of what happened, yes, but not WHY water anointing happened instead of oil anointing. Then again, I am also expecting a 'Why' question to be answered with a statement of "Because (followed with point by point details of God's internal reasoning for it)"

  39. This is what happens when you interpret the word from Hollywood perspective….

    He wasnt annointed with Water, rather the significance is the LAMB being washed as they did in the Old testament,,, John said "Behold the Lamb of God" and did wash the Lamb,,, the Oil has always been a symbol of the Spirit's baptism for it is recorded that men prophecied after the annointed… For the old testament was all a prefigure of the Original….. And its not because of the failures of the old testament priest that paved way for Jesus The christ,,,, for He has always been in the thought of God even before the first priest was commissioned,,,, for God told moses to replicate on the Earth, what He saw in Heaven…. They were prefigures…. Dont misinterpret or add to the Word of God.. thank you.

  41. I believe it’s because oil can be used to burn and from here we get the “fiery” kings who were ruling recklessly. John the Baptist was the one to first baptize with water because water can be a symbol of something which shall be impossible to burn, thus getting this image of the passive faithful. Jesus was baptized with the Holy Spirit by God and He came to baptize people with the Holy Spirit which shows itself as a fire that can or cannot burn to touch. Something which can show how one may choose or not to “burn”
