He says the only that would disprove the Bible is finding Jesus’ body. But given we don’t have any information about Jesus’ DNA profile, dental records or bone structure, there no way we could test whether a particular set of skeletal remains belonged to Jesus.
It wouldn’t make it completely false however it makes it not trusted and would prove that the Bible has been altered and therefore it is not the word of god anymore. Although the Bible does have some fragments of the original gospel, we cannot be certain that what this modern Bible preaches is the same.
The very fact that Sean won't acknowledge the contradictions in the Bible shows just how important it is to have an inerrant book for his faith. If the book has errors then how can you have confidence in the most unbelievable parts? How can you know its more than human if it has errors just like all human books?
Exactly Sean!
Sean can't say there are contradictions and has to use "alleged" or "apparent" or "tension". He has to use this double speak as he signed a testament of faith that agrees to the inerrancy of the Bible to be faculty at Biola. There are contradictions that requires unreasonable maneuvering to justify as no longer contradiction. For instance, in Mark 5:21 Jairus confronts Jesus as his daughter is at the point of death, but in Matthew 9:18 the daughter is already dead when he confronts Jesus. If Jesus had a full Roman crucifixion he would not have been buried. He would have been left on the cross and after some time his body would have been disposed of in a mass grave adding the humiliation as the procedure was intended to do. So saying finding Jesus' body would disprove Christianity is an impossible task. It's an escape goat to assure one's of their faith cannot be invalidated.
Contradictions only shake the faith of those who believe only because of the inerrancy of the Bible.
Jesus Christ Loves You All
If you had the body of Jesus, would anybody have recognized it?
According to the first chapter of Acts, the disciples didn't resume preaching until 40 days after the crucifixion, at which point the body would have been more than a little ripe.
(Also, crucifixion wounds would NOT have been an identifying marker as Jesus was hardly the only one killed in such a manner.)
well, since christians claim that the bible is from some perfect imaginary being, the fact that it has contradictions in it, and people believe contradictory things about what it says shows that the bible is full of lies.
curious how these ignorant cultists have murdered each other over the contradictions and differences in translation of this nonsense
the foundation of the faith is NOT the resurrection. the resurrection is an ESSENTIAL of our faith (so is the crucifixion, Incarnation, creation, etc), but the BIBLE provides the foundation for our beliefs.
Paul never says that the resurrection is the "foundation" for the faith in 1Cor 15… simply that it's essential.
