1:00…You should know what these "objective morals" are since you are the purveyors of them. So which of the parts of the bible will you cherry pick to claim your "objective morals"? Where did the thought process come from that you used to edit the bible? The bible itself? God himself? Why not just write/inspire upon man the correct version to begin with?
No such thing as absolutes – are you absolutly sure?
Then what? Greg
The real issue here is that theists argue that moral law can be derived from some supernatural being. Yet believers in supernatural interventionist entities never come up with the miracles to back their position. Where are the burning bushes and pillars of fire? The resurrections? The amputees with limbs restored? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
Objectivism vs. Relativism is false dichotomy. Relativism has such a negative connotation implying immorality or having no clear understanding of right and wrong. Understanding that not everything is 100% right or 100% wrong is a sophisticated way of understanding morality. I definitely don't believe in objective or absolute moral laws but that doesn't make me a Relativist. That's just absurd.
@djquiz6425 "I was a lying stealing cheating arrogant sexually immoral drug-addicted jerk."
Which was your decision to engage in those actions while knowing the consequences.
"I knew I was bad and wanted to be good.I asked Jesus to take control of my life;"
Jesus is dead. He cannot save you. Ultimately only you can save you from yourself because you are the director of your own actions. Others can influence your thoughts, but finally you are the owner of your own thoughts.
Actually, anything which exists makes up an absolute.
Using your example, The lecturer should be asked to answer whether he got up this morning or not? If he says he did, then he can't still be in bed, he stated an absolute!
Anybody who says the lecturer did not get out of bed, because they believe in relativism, would not be able to sustain their argument from the simple evidence of the lecturer's presence in the class. Relativism would be proved absolutely false.
Another great vid. Thanks for posting.
For those who defend the Truth to non-believers, can I offer the following advice! In one of my Bibles (Children's Living Bible) for 1 Corin 9:22 it says, 'When I am with those whose consciences bother them easily, I don't act as though I know it all and don't say they are foolish; the result is that they are willing to let me help them. Yes whatever a person is like I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ, and let Christ save him.'
Ask and ye shall receive! I asked Jesus to show me my pride and dishonesty, and He did. Then I asked Him to remove it. Then when I was able to be for real with myself and Him, I asked Him to show me my sin. Then I asked to wash my sin away with His blood. Then I asked Jesus to show me the fears, doubts and scars I had in my heart. Then I asked Jesus to take it away. I could not do any of this myself, I had to ASK HIM to do it. He did. And then HE ASKED ME to tell others what He did for me.
I heard how Jesus changed other people's lives and I wanted it too.I was a lying stealing cheating arrogant sexually immoral drug-addicted jerk.I knew I was bad and wanted to be good.I asked Jesus to take control of my life;I had made a mess of it.He came and purified my thought-life and heart.I believe the Son of God died for my sins and rose again. Understanding His love I trust Him and give Him control of my life. He transformed me into a new person.Never knew joy like this was possible.
@technatezin maybe you're right! maybe the absolute about there being exceptions has exceptions and that those absolutes therefore have no exceptions! good thinking!
Good video. Thanks. I would love to see more photos of your wood shop. Looks very impressive and quite organized.
1+1=2 Always
"I am absolutely certain that you can NOT be absolutely certain that no absolute certainties exist, moral or otherwise."
I have this made up as a portable "sandwich board" that I occasionally wear to the odd march or walk that I choose to join. Gets some very vociferous reaction from all sides because most folk don't actually think in this paradigm.
Great job Greg? Thanks!
Name them?
Start with A=A, and, all you need is one to overthrow his/her point.
But can't you name at least ONE absolute (rather than naming them ALL), because that's all you have to do to prove the existence of an absolute?
@VeryEvilPettingZoo I'm of the philosophy that for every absolute there is an exception and that *it depends* and *unless* are under used words in the cognitive process. Think of the many problems that could be solved or avoided altogether when before making a decision or even after making the decision, people go back and think with the words "unless" and "it depends" then making their decision again.
Very interesting video great job I subbed.
Absolutes and Truth can be proven by trying to claim they don't exist. If the statements: "there are no absolutes" or "there is no truth" were valid statements, they would invalidate themselves since the statement itself would be an example of an absolute or a truth. Proving the existence of what is trying to be disproved.
I'm the first to comment.
GOD Bless!
