The name Old Testament is misleading since these tales were written down at least 500 years after the events. What I'm interested in is if there is some connection to Greek mythology? It was during the Helenistic period they started writing.
A few thoughts:
1) Hanan bar Rava, an Israelite who lived in Babylon in 290 CE, wrote among other details that David's mother was Nitzevet. Did he have access to Hebrew sources on David, which we do not know today?
2) I expect there to be less evidence of successful kings in outside-Israel writings than of unsuccessful ones. At the time people did not write down everything, and kings in literate societies would have told scribes to write down their successes. If none of the surrounding leaders actually had interactions where they defeated David's men, they would not write of David.
3) I was in Israel in 2013. A tour guide told me potential archeological evidence of David's palace was found very close to the big mosque in Jerusalem, at such a place that the best place to look further would be to dig up under the mosque. Which is likely to start of a war if they try – digging up a Muslim holy site to look for Jewish history, in the sensitive Middle Eastern political climate?
If I rethink that with my limited political knowledge, it sounds very likely that invading Muslims of centuries ago would build their temple literally over the house (palace) of David, to make a point.

….Hi everybody😊…..I think that the person presenting this post is considering wether or not the stories of King Solomon & King David may be referenced from some earlier Egyptian stories, rather than king David being a true historical figure……
Just like there are virgin birth stories that highly resemble the story of Jesus Christ in many cultures long before the origin of the story of Jesus Christ….
Similar virgin birth stories would be the stories of Zoroaster, Mithra, & Krishna just to name a couple…..That's what I'm getting from this anyway🤔…..Peace & Blessings to Everybody☮️🙏🏽
I'm happy that this video exist!….Great topic!!….Over the years, personally I have never found any true history about King David outside of religious writings…..
Although there were were scribes who lived and wrote about influential & historic people during the lifetime of Kind David, so far I have not personally come across any information outside of religious forums, that mentions King David as a truly historical person……
In closing, I will say that I do love the Biblical story of David & Goliath because there is a faith & courage message in that story❤️….Thank you for this post…..Shalom☮️✨
I mean, why would other kingdoms write or care much, about David? They had their own histories to worry about. It makes operfect sense that the main or even only record of his life would be in the hands of his own people.
I find it interesting and alarming that you don't know your facts better. There are numerous archeological finds in the past decade and even the last few years that have corroborated many of the people and events recorded in the Old Testament books. Kind David's palace has been uncovered in the old city of Jerusalem along with coins and even seals of other rulers and people of that time.
The same thing happens today. For example, I don't know of any American history books written by Canadians, but when Canadians refer to the USA it seems to corroborate their historical accounts.
You make the statement that "the absence of evidence doesn't negate the story". I understand what you're trying to say, but I think that there is a nuance missing. The truth of that statement depends very much on whether or not there should be evidence to find. The absence of specific evidence that SHOULD be there can and IS used to negate stories. For example, look at the Book of Mormon. It makes grandiose claims about civilizations that existed in pre-Columbian North America. Yet absolutely no evidence has been found that such civilizations ever existed. If they had existed, we should expect to find some evidence of them, yet we have not. The lack of physical evidence seriously undermines the historicity of the Book of Mormon. In David's case, the situation is complicated not because there is no evidence, but because there is too much. David lived around 3,000 years ago, and people have continued living in that area ever since. Any physical evidence of David has probably been destroyed, obscured, or co-mingled with the evidence of the activities of later peoples. That is where artifacts like the Tel Dan stele become valuable. Even though they are rare, such artifacts are crucial because they cut through the "noise" of 3,000 years of treading sandals and provide corroboration of events in the ancient past that are now very difficult to locate or distinguish.
Curious, fairly new to the channel. Is the premise of it testing whether God is a lier??
To any doubt regarding the Bible and it’s teachings, if it is the inherent word of God why is there a need to justify God’s word through the standards of the world?

Another YouTuber created lists of the different Kings of Judah and Israel and rated them as whether or not they actually existed. He referenced the tel Dan inscription and used it as evidence to support King Omri existing but not King David. Even though both are referenced on the same Rock.
Either we can use the inscription as historical evidence, or we reject it. It's one rock and one inscription.

God told Israel that He did not choose them because they were a great and mighty nation, but rather that they were small, insignificant among the world powers of their times (which also lines up with what God told Paul in 1 Corinthians "My power is perfectly shown in weakness"), so it would make a lot of sense for Israel to not show up in many historical records back then, even with the territory that David (and even more so Solomon) controlled.
Of course, I also find it very interesting that the general public doesn't think that Israel as the Bible describes it even existed in that time, and yet they'll readily believe that the Palestinians lived in that area before the Hebrews and were displaced by them not only back then but also in the modern era.
