Rape, murder, war– they all have one thing in typical: Men.
Aggression, violence, aspiration uncontrolled by conscience– all the stuff of “toxic masculinity,”?
And, the service is obvious: make guys less hazardous.
Make males less masculine.
Make guys more like females.
I’m here to tell you that this way of thinking is not only incorrect, it’s hazardous.
Here’s why: When you attempt to make men more like ladies, you do not get less “hazardous masculinity,” you get more.
Because bad males do not end up being excellent when they stop being guys; they become excellent when they stop being bad. And when they are utilized, they are tools for good, not for damage.
The exact same masculine characteristics that bring damage likewise defeat tyranny. The qualities that promote greed likewise build economies. The traits that drive males to take absurd dangers also drive males to take heroic dangers.
The response to poisonous masculinity isn’t less masculinity; it’s better masculinity. And we know what that looks like.
It’s a boy opening the door for a woman on their first date. It’s a dad working long hours to offer his family. It’s a soldier risking his life to defend his nation.
The growing problem in today’s society isn’t that males are too masculine; it’s that they’re not manly enough. They are leaders, heroes and warriors when guys embrace their masculinity in a method that is healthy and efficient. When they deny their masculinity, they run away from responsibilities, leaving destruction and despair in their wake.
The repercussions can be seen all over.
One in 4 fathers now lives apart from his children. And kids who grow up without a papa are usually more depressed than their peers who have a mom and a daddy.
” Of all the rocks upon which we build our lives … family is the most crucial. And we are called to honor and recognize how critical every daddy is to that foundation.”
That was stated by then-Senator Barack Obama in 2008.
” If we are honest with ourselves,” he went on, “we’ll admit that … too many dads are … missing out on from a lot of lives and too many homes.”
As much as we attempt to reject the need genuine, manly strength in society, there’s no rejecting its need. Strong communities and healthy families depend upon the management and bravery of good males.
The existing trend is to feminize young males in the hopes of achieving some utopian notion of equality and peace. And it starts at the earliest ages. In the school class, kids are usually “the issue.” On the play area, aggressive video games like dodgeball have long been banished. We tell young men that their intrinsic desire to contend is wrong. Everyone gets a trophy. Do not add the score. This anti-male tilt advances through college and into the work environment. It has produced millions of tentative males, dissatisfied ladies, and confused boys and ladies.
