The Way of the Exile
If followers of Jesus are to give their total allegiance to God’s Kingdom, how should they relate to the governments and power structures of their own day? In this video, we’ll see how the experience of Daniel and his friends in Babylonian exile offers wisdom for navigating this tension. Following Jesus in the 21st century means learning the way of the exile.

As a citizen of the USA, this video resonates with me. My allegiance is not to the flag, the republic, the military, the economy, Congress, the White House, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or any politician or political party.
While I’m learning from Daniel and Jesus to pray for my country and seek its prosperity (by all and by only Godly means), my first and abiding allegiance is to Yahweh alone — so I’m also learning how to show my country’s corruption and idolatry for what they are.
I see many Christians in this country embracing the gods of national security, border security, individual rights, material prosperity, “Christian and family values” (which means enforcing the norms of middle-class, nationalist, churchianity culture), class status, career, and selfish leisure. As they embrace these gods, they embrace corruption, greed, jingoism, prejudice, oppression, and violence. They embrace Babylon.
Jesus parables make me believe that it’s the Righteous who are actually the fittest.
Oh my goodness. Daniel and his friends laid down their lives just like Jesus did. Duh
Oh. Loyalty & subversion
Interesting; never thought of it like that.
A long hair European bald Jesus….I will they made Jesus in a way where u never see his cartoon face.
Not to point or declare sides, but those of the political left and right who claim Christ need to watch this.
What if the Babylonion way was to work more than 40 hours a week, but God forbids we do that? In order to secure housing for yourself you have to attain a job and in order to obtain a job you have to agree to work more than 40 hours a week. Would the way of the exile be to tell the employer that you will work more than 40 hours a week so that you can get a home, but then continue to have faith in God and pray for him to help you not break his laws and when God shows up and tells you to go do a different job, you obey God instead? Because God in his infinite wisdom would know your heart and that you were only doing what was required for your survival in hell… as you wait for God to send you CLEAR instruction that you know for sure is not just a trick from the false prophets.
The part at the end about Babylon was really creepy, but very well done.
This was sooo eye opening!
Thanks so much ❤️
AI can draw Jesus better than you! YOU JUST HATE ANIMATING JESUS as a NEGRO HUH? 🙄THATS OKAY, THE REAL HEBREW ISRAEITES HAS RISEN. WE WANT OUT LAND BACK. We are still here from OUR story you're teaching. AND WE SHOWING THE WORLD THE TRUE IMAGE OF JESUS! Poor art, nothing close to looking like how jesus was described.
Mystery Babylon is within you.
On one hand massive vote theft and consistently lying media, and unjust DOJ, etc got illegal people in authority, defying man's voting free will and God Who respects the freewill He gave us. On the other hand until justice returns we have some leaders to live under. Rebellion is not the answer. Compromise of morality and unjust submission will crush us. Some pray for true justice jailing the criminals and restoring our freedoms and stopping the stalwart run of evil to rule our lives. Like Daniel and his 3 friends we compromise on matters that do not matter to God and oppose evil that seeks ro rule our spirits. We refuse to bend, bow, or burn and if we are just and trust God and oppose real evil then God will move with us and in response to us . IF MY PEOPLE will Humble THEMSELVES and PRAY, THEN I will HEAR their prayers and HEAL THEIR LAND. This is not the unsaved – don't know God, hate God, or religious Not Born Again in spirit people not known by God – but the Real Church of born again believers. What land? Israel? No, where the true believers ARE. Quit bracing for the evil driven people to take down America, or where you live, but save and restore where you are.. Do not be like Jonah waiting for Ninevah's destruction while you live there.
❤🙌 🙏💪🇺🇸
Awesome!!!
Do not accept cashless money or neuralink. It is the mark. If you cant see that then your already damned.
4:30 well, Babylon still exists, but as a ruined city upon which the Iraqi city of Hillah was built around it.
❤️❤️❤️
John 3:16 “ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
YOU ARE AMAZING AMD HAVE AN AMAZING DAY!!! 🙂
Babylon was a code word for Rome:
[1Pe 5:13 NKJV] [13] She who is in Babylon, elect together with [you], greets you; and [so does] Mark my son.
Revelation 18 is about 70 AD/CE and the destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem.
Also, while 1 Peter 2:18 enjoins slaves to be slaves with gusto, when Paul writes to Philemon – a slave owner – he is fawning and deferent and suggests no sacrifice, cost or inconvenience.
Wow… I needed this. Thank you Bible Project for your work in the Kingdom.
Truly Amazing
fantastic. Learned lots!
Impressionante. Não havia percebido isso antes.
Sound like the so called black Americans. Kyrie was right.

The 30 second end hit hard for me. The modern corrupted Babylon and the simple tents next to the old corrupted Babylon.
so powerful!!!!!!!!!!!
we are exiles in this world. How do you live in this world? Do you take the third option?
Daniel is a book that is specifically designed to be understood by the people at the end of time. Us.
This is not egotism to say no one understood the book until us.
The understanding was not complete until history was fulfilled AND knowledge about God was restored.
Daniel was written to guide us through the end times. Daniel is a wheel, with each spoke providing a view down to the time that Jesus returns.
The spokes are the prophecies in Daniel providing a different perspective of history future to Daniel but mostly past to us.
The space in between the spokes is the stories of how we should live our lives in the end of days before Jesus comes back.
And it starts with diet, as it always does. Adam and Eve. food. Noah, drink. We must eat and drink correctly to have a clear mind.
then the prophecy of the dream of the statue with head of gold… We already know this to be the kingdoms of the world, Babylon, Medes and Persians, Greece, Rome, Papal Rome, and Kingdom of God.
Then another story of how to live our lives.
Then another prophecy.
Then another story.
then prophecy.
etc.
may we always remember that we are in this world but not a part of it
Excellent!
Can someone list all the Bible books/verses that this video is reffering to? I'm having trouble finding them.
You can straight up apply all of this to people too. When faced with opposing people, two options are usually obviously presented: Either, return the aggression (eye for an eye) or forgive and forget (turning the other cheek). There are problems with both, eye for an eye and the world goes blind, but turning the other cheek just gets you slapped. So there is another way. Forgive, but do not forget. Show kindness and seek their well being, but show subversion in face of further animosity. Essentially be a brick wall. Show that no matter what they do, you will continue to be kind, but don't let yourself be taken advantage of. A good quote from modern media is "no matter how the wind howls, the mountain cannot bow to it".
Another point about the Way of the Exile is that when encountering a new culture in exile, no matter how horrible the rulers are, remember that not everyone are like that. There were genuine, good people in Babylon. Babylon under the achaemenid ruler Cyrus the Great was even credited with having the best care for their poor, their sick and their homeless this side of modern western countries. Babylon, although represented as an oppressive force of evil, was absolutely not like that. Even nazi germany was full of good people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. The only thing required for evil to flourish is for good people to do nothing.
1914—A Significant Year in Bible Prophecy
DECADES in advance, Bible students proclaimed that there would be significant developments in 1914. What were these, and what evidence points to 1914 as such an important year?
As recorded at Luke 21:24, Jesus said: “Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations [“the times of the Gentiles,” King James Version] are fulfilled.” Jerusalem had been the capital city of the Jewish nation—the seat of rulership of the line of kings from the house of King David. (Psalm 48:1, 2) However, these kings were unique among national leaders. They sat on “Jehovah’s throne” as representatives of God himself. (1 Chronicles 29:23) Jerusalem was thus a symbol of Jehovah’s rulership.
How and when, though, did God’s rulership begin to be “trampled on by the nations”? This happened in 607 B.C.E. when Jerusalem was conquered by the Babylonians. “Jehovah’s throne” became vacant, and the line of kings who descended from David was interrupted. (2 Kings 25:1-26) Would this ‘trampling’ go on forever? No, for the prophecy of Ezekiel said regarding Jerusalem’s last king, Zedekiah: “Remove the turban, and take off the crown. . . . It will not belong to anyone until the one who has the legal right comes, and I will give it to him.” (Ezekiel 21:26, 27) “The one who has the legal right” to the Davidic crown is Christ Jesus. (Luke 1:32, 33) So the ‘trampling’ would end when Jesus became King.
When would that grand event occur? Jesus showed that the Gentiles would rule for a fixed period of time. The account in Daniel chapter 4 holds the key to knowing how long that period would last. It relates a prophetic dream experienced by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He saw a tree of enormous height that was chopped down. Its stump could not grow because it was banded with iron and copper. An angel declared: “Let seven times pass over it.”—Daniel 4:10-16.
In the Bible, trees are sometimes used to represent rulership. (Ezekiel 17:22-24; 31:2-5) So the chopping down of the symbolic tree represents how God’s rulership, as expressed through the kings at Jerusalem, would be interrupted. However, the vision served notice that this ‘trampling of Jerusalem’ would be temporary—a period of “seven times.” How long a period is that?
Revelation 12:6, 14 indicates that three and a half times equal “1,260 days.” “Seven times” would therefore last twice as long, or 2,520 days. But the Gentile nations did not stop ‘trampling’ on God’s rulership a mere 2,520 days after Jerusalem’s fall. Evidently, then, this prophecy covers a much longer period of time. On the basis of Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4:6, which speak of “a day for a year,” the “seven times” would cover 2,520 years.
The 2,520 years began in October 607 B.C.E., when Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians and the Davidic king was taken off his throne. The period ended in October 1914. At that time, “the appointed times of the nations” ended, and Jesus Christ was installed as God’s heavenly King. *—Psalm 2:1-6; Daniel 7:13, 14.
Just as Jesus predicted, his “presence” as heavenly King has been marked by dramatic world developments—war, famine, earthquakes, pestilences. (Matthew 24:3-8; Luke 21:11) Such developments bear powerful testimony to the fact that 1914 indeed marked the birth of God’s heavenly Kingdom and the beginning of “the last days” of this present wicked system of things.—2 Timothy 3:1-5.
As a Christian Anarchist, this resonated with me deeply.
I always equated America with Babylon, but I wanted to serve.
We must be free. The Kingdom is nigh!
this one is my favorite among all the bibleproject videos
thank you jesus
Babylon is a great system indeed and if we're to opposeit fully then their must be sacrifices
Wow! God bless the works of your hands
@2.54 NOT ALL WENT BACK those that went back ended up speaking Aramiac not Hebrew.
I really love this video. Sometimes I come back to it when I feel exiled in my own home country. It's like if you guys are my fellow citizens from the "City of God" have taped me a message from home so I can focus on be prepared to the day when I'll finally be called back.
No one sees the correlation between the negros of America experiencing this for well over 400 years??
Exegetically we are actually currently in this form of exile rn as the body of Christ in this world, so the exilic and pre exilic ways of doing things is actually some of the MOST practical and pragmatic examples of how we should live today other than the NT.
