This is sort of how I handle most discussions– I ask questions and listen. I'm more interested in winning people and not winning arguments. Even if I "lose" the argument and win the person, I am okay with that. Because people are more important. So I'd rather win a friend than win an argument.
First, I think it's completely wrong to assume this is an emotional issue, and not an intellectual one
Second, the "intellectual" analysis of the issue is extremely superficial in the beginning and hilarious towards the end. His actual response cashed out to be two things:
1. "hey, well, Hell is a lot worse! So be rational and choose Heaven."
2. "God is way more important than family or which ever loved one you had on earth"
