I really identify very much to what you were sharing about Paul When I was in Bible college i noticed these three things Paul said about himself, and I pondered about them for some time before making a conclusion about what was meant since .he went from the least of the Apostles to chief of sinners. I understand this to be that as we walk closer to God and see Him more clearly we begin to understand how far we have to go. The only righteousness that we have is through Christ himself. The way to understand that is to take up our cross and follow Jesus.
My football coach told me no pain no gain. I believe that to be true after a fashion as a Christian .
1 Corinthians 15:9
For I am the least of the apostles
57 AD
Ephesians 3:8 |
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints
61-63 AD
1 Timothy 1:15
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
64-65 AD
Thank you for being candid about the difficulty in walking with God and the difficulty with length of time it takes to grow after change and painful seasons. I’m in my mid sixties and I’ve felt isolated for long periods because of hardship and the church people that really only want to be around you if you are a happy Christian. I’m joyful deep in my heart but the excruciating pains of life can feel unbearable. I’ve always had that very same saying, Greg. “ Life is hard, and then you die. “ Lol Yet I have learned to trust God deeper and fuller, in the anguish so it makes it worth it. I understand He is still somehow working this all out for the good of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose.I try to see it as God’s absolute LOVE for me that uses the pain and suffering to grow me all the while realizing this WILL END at some point. I don’t think we get real with each other as often as we should. I know I don’t. I get strange looks and silence too many times if I venture to share what I’m really going through with some other Christians. Typically I wait to hear from the Christian I’m considering sharing my suffering with, to see if they have also gone through very fiery trials yet, and have been refined by the Lord. If they have and are really trusting God daily, I feel safe.
Regarding the pain you mentioned as we grow in Christ, this scripture reverberates in my mind. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness because they will be filled.” Mt. 5:6
Growth is hard. Trusting God is hard. Sometimes, we have to make a conscious decision to let events or relationships grow us because the same things could send us backwards or downward.
