The Habit of Open-Mindedness: Process Series
In our latest video from our Process series, we talk about how important it is to set aside our assumptions about the world when reading the Bible and instead work to understand what the biblical authors were actually trying to communicate. When we cultivate a habit of open-mindedness when studying the Scriptures, there is endless discovery over a lifetime of reading available to all of us.

I want to congratulate you on your amazing work:
I am 63; I was born to a Jewish mother and a Catholic father in New York City. I was the 7 year old boy arguing with my Catholic neighbors on the street about the existence of God. You know how it went … 'How did you get here' … followed by 'How did God get here'. I never believed in God (the way that believers would define the word) but always understood the importance of religion in our world; I was an agnostic. I have had many scores of great conversations through my life with religious people about religion and God. I've somehow picked up quite a bit of knowledge for a non-believer.
My long time girlfriend, a Seventh Day Adventist, and I have always had wonderful discussions about God. Of course, she wants me to be a believer. Her interest in God is about 'belief' (religion) and mine is about 'knowledge' (history). We respect one another deeply so our different belief systems is actually a 'blessing'.
Recently, we found your project's Old/New Testament video lists and watched them. We were astounded by the wonderful creativity and by the effective way that you tell the biblical stories. My girlfriend's knowledge about the Bible has increased substantially and I am very happy to have now finally reviewed the Bible from an historical perspective.
In a nutshell:
She is grateful for the impact that your videos has had on her; her knowledge has markedly increased. She now has a better understanding of the overall structure and chronology of the books and she values that understanding.
It is not possible for me to be a believer (again, in the way that believers would define the word) but my review of the Old/New Testaments was long overdue. Actually, all of my positions about God from an historical perspective are reinforced by your videos. Here are two (of many) boiled down to one sentence versions:
– You don't have to believe in God to believe in God.
– God does and does not exist; so what is the issue?
Thanks again!
Good foundation to understand the Bible:
God the father (learning about God through our image), God the Son (learning about God through his image), God the holy spirit (we could understand his truth without image)
God the father (what we learned about God in the Old Testament), God the Son (what we learned about God in the New Testament), God the holy spirit (what we learned about God after he was resurrected)
God the father (God is far from us), God the Son (God walked next to us), God the holy spirit (God is in us)
When God the Son talks to God the father (himself), it to show us how to interact with God
God will burn the sin not the sinner (purgatory)
God created human not God
The humans were not programed, so they needed to learn about God
The tree of knowledge is learning the truth without God. The tree of life is learning the truth with God
Adam and Eve, clothing themselves is symbolic to trying, to fix their problem without God
God cloth them with animal skin, is symbolic to, it is his work not their work to fix the problems
You can’t blame Adam and Eve sin on Satan, because God did not create Satan as a God, then it was expect for Satan to sin, sin with connection to God, it will lead to growth in knowing about God
Sin is to kind, to disconnect from God, and the results of disconnecting from God
Penalty doesn’t come from God, but it come as a result from not fowling his law

Thank u for doing this cause my grandbabies will even enjoy these videos and learn about our Father and Messiah.
i have been living homeless since jesus become story of my life. including no job, being raped, called as whore. i can not live with my family because dunno there is a big wall to tell my family different than myself, what marriage meaning for myself, what future i want to take, what is view of broken financial in my thirties? no idea how i survive in this recessions. what is your advise?
The Bible constantly tells people to turn away from sin. To repent. Then it shows what the outcome is when we don't. If we were all good little angels, there would be no need for a Bible or a Savior. But we aren't… by a long shot. Humanity has been plagued by following its own lusts and desires to the point of no return. But God provided a Savior to help uncouple us from that life of sin.
How do you know when you've landed on the right 'hearing' of the word in the Bible?
Thank you for this Video ^_^
I wonder if Tim Mackie is related to Ben Shapiro? 🤔
Watching 12/24/21
You said some of the thoughts I could not put into words
Любим БОГА ОТЦА и СЫНА БОЖИЯ ИИСУСА ХРИСТА и СВЯТОГО ДУХА БОЖИЯ АМИНЬ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Boy, those paradigms do get in our way in understanding the Bible and each other!
This is great!
Video of high quality insight as usual.
I wanna work for Bible Project
This would confirm the Bible verse about not leaning on our own understanding [intelligence]

I learn so much from Tim Mackie.
The problem with the world/mankind/his nature, etc…is 'cognitive dissonance'. Mankind is simply…not honest with themselves. Most twist reasoning and logic, to fit their own narrative/paradigm/truth. Most will flip sides in regards to what they 'want' to be truth. Consider this example: You have two middle aged couples with adult children. Each couple has a son and daughter. The first couple, have a son, who is accused by the second couple's daughter, of sexual assault. Naturally…the first couple will defend their son, and probably claim all kinds of atrocities, like the daughter dressed in a sexual manner, or has a bad reputation sexually. The second couple with the daughter, will want blood from the young man their daughter has accused of sexual assault. Now…..now….now….flip the scenario. Same couples. Only this time…the first couple's daughter is accusing the second couples son of sexual assault. Same outcome. Both sides are not interested in the truth. They are only interested in their own well being…and will choose to defend the side…of their loved one…regardles of the truth. That is called cognitive dissonance. Truth does not matter to people. She sad thing about that is…Christ claims to, literally be Truth. It is of the utmost importance. But sadly…mankind's nature does not want Truth. It wants to twist logic and reasoning. That is why people will not hear sound reasoning and discern properly…what is actually Truth. Just people being people.
Warning⚠️
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 16:18
70 people said NO I don't want to have an open mind. lol
Being open-minded means you’re being senseless in Greek. The letter kills but the spirit gives life in order for us to get the right interpretation we must kill the carnal understanding.
exegesis vs eisegesis
It's not bad to be open minded in certain things, however the most important thing about reading the bible is to ask the Holy Spirit to help and let us understand the scripture or the bible, because the only way to do this is through Him.
