In a 2016 episode of the science fiction series Black Mirror, a young woman named Lacie lives in a world where people rate every interaction they have with another person.

Think of rating a restaurant on Trip Advisor. Except in this scenario, they’re rating you.

In this dystopian scenario, Lacie obsesses about improving her “rating.” Whatever she says and does could make or break her future—from the cost of her rent to the quality of her healthcare. 
Inevitably, this leads people to associate with those who have a higher rating and disassociate with those who have a lower one.

Turns out that Lacie isn’t very good at navigating this system. By the conclusion of the episode… Well, let’s just say it doesn’t end well for her.

Black Mirror is fiction. But the society it paints is becoming a reality in the People’s Republic of China. 

You may have heard of it. It’s called the Social Credit System. By all indications, it’s the future of that country. If we’re not careful, it may be our future here.

I’m drawing this to your attention because I left China to get away from the all-seeing eye of the Chinese government. I fled to the West in search of freedom. I found it. 

But now I’m seeing troubling signs that remind me of what I left behind.

The loss of freedom doesn’t happen overnight. The Chinese Social Credit System has been decades in the making.

It was okay at first. These things always are. Throughout the 1990s, Chinese banks developed financial credit rating programs—like those we have in America—to increase lending in rural areas. So far so good.

But government officials soon realized that similar programs could be set up to gather other information about the behavior of its citizens.

By 2014, new technology allowed the state to monitor what people said, did, bought, read, and searched on the Internet.

Why? Because more data equals more control.

That year, the State Council, China’s highest administrative body, issued a blueprint for phase one of the Social Credit System. The central government then established pilot programs in 43 cities across the country. 

In one of those cities, Rongcheng, local officials labeled certain behaviors as either acceptable or unacceptable. Every adult was assigned 1,000 social credit points. They gained or lost points depending on how well their public and private lives conformed to government standards. Buying diapers was fine: you’re taking care of your family. Playing video games: questionable because the state sees it as a sign of laziness. And discussing religion or grumbling about state policy: unacceptable.

Lose too many points and you might miss out on privileges like bank loans, faster internet, and plane tickets.

Big companies such as Alibaba work with the government to make the system viable. Imagine the government knows and judges what you buy on Amazon, and you get the idea.

It’s assumed that in the near future, the system will be mandated for all Chinese citizens. Already, many people have been “enrolled” without their knowledge.

Some in China think that the Social Credit System promotes good behavior, addressing everything from crime to bad driving and financial delinquency.

But the system doesn’t stop there. 

It hasn’t taken Chinese authorities long to draw up massive blacklists for those deemed “unacceptable.” According to the Guardian in England, there are 23 million Chinese on those lists. And the number is growing.

One of them, Liu Hu, is a journalist who published articles exposing government corruption and censorship. The system banned him from flying, traveling on a train, buying property, and taking out loans without any due process.

The Muslim Uyghurs of Xinjiang have seen even worse. Many have been sent to reeducation camps for “unacceptable” behavior.

    I want to be wrong, but what if I'm not? PLEASE HELP.
    I believe this is misinformation. He is comparing oranges to apples. He is comparing China's intrusive AI spying technology, with a moral credit system program used by it's communist party (CCP) to attack the vaccine mandates in America. He is using fear mongering. But America isn't China, And Americans aren't Chinese. Our military are American Patriot. They are our Father, son, brother, uncle, sister, mother, aunt. No one party will ever be stronger than the American people. We are not afraid of our government. We fight for what we believe in. We can't be scared into submission. I believe this. But I also believe the Chinese government took advantage of the virus once the virus escaped into the world. Let me prove it. No country apart from North Korea had a lock down as bad as china did. You couldn't leave at all. They had AI cameras watching its citizens 24/7. They knew how deadly covid was. Then forced its citizens to lock down hard and take the vaccine. Again a virus they created. While spreading misinformation about the virus to the world. Then having hackers and bots flood the internet with lies about the vaccine and where the virus came from. Causing so many Americans to believe the virus wasn't real or the vaccine was some conspiracy. Why? Because how do you kill millions of Americans, plus millions around the world without declaring war, And still come out looking like a victim? By Saving their country. Stopping the spread of the virus until the vaccine reaches enough ppl, that is slows down the mortality rate. While manipulating the vaccines narative until your distrusting the ppl in your government who are trying to save you. Again why? Because America and its ally are the only thing standing in their way from taking over Taiwan, the South china Sea and its neighboring Asian countries. China's vision for the future is world domination. Its why they supported And allied with Authoritarianism and Communist countries. (Birds of a feather, flock together). China's government used misinformation as a weapon for war. China was ground zero for covid that took millions of lives around the world. A virus that was grown in their laboratory. They use videos like this one as munipulation war tactics. They're using a Chinese man who obviously just came from China into manipulating you against a vaccine that helped stop the spread and speed at which the virus was spreading among healthy adults and children. While turning a deadly virus to a common cold for weaker adults and children. China's population is 1,425,454,044. So for every 1 American, there is 4.3 Chinese in China. Now, I don't believe China released the virus on purpose. They lost a lot of citizens. But I do believe they took advantage of the virus with a military mindset. Some people believe one group of elites run the world. But that's not true. I believe there are multiple elite groups fighting to control their part of the world, with dreams of owning it all. So remember they can't protect or control their part of the world without people fighting for them. So even though you can't trust your government, at least trust they need you alive and well to protect their interests and fight for this country. Here is a Perfect example, birth rates in the country have been declining for decades while abortion rates went up. At the same China's population keeps growing. Our government began to worry, that only will the population shrink but so will our military soldiers. Our government believes if this continues, then countries like China can beat us with just sheer numbers. How would you fix this problem? I don't know. Buts it's funny that now with the world on edge, our government banned abortions.

Sweet and logical in the beginning but it will get more and more demanding as time goes on. And make no mistake it will end in paralyzing fear and a total destruction of the one in a kind person that God created. In other words you will end up as a mindless puppet.

  13. China doesn't want to end up like the USA with mass shootings every month and crime everywhere. They trust their government and their government in return provides them real results by promoting a system that makes every Chinese richer and safer what is the harm in that?

    In the USA the population is afraid of not only the government but also the law enforcement in china they trust and love both.

    So please stop your anti-china propaganda and start talking about your problems like mass incarceration to have a free labor force(that is called slavery but no one talks about it) and the coming financial recession, the rise of crime, and the massive political divide between Americans.

    your government literally sends you your children to die everywhere around the world in wars that will never reach your country just so their military machine doesn't stop.

    If you think that I am been bias and I do understand if you think that please ask yourself how many wars did the USA engage in since the end of the cold war, and how many countries did the USA invade bombe and destroyed?

    China literally didn't go to war even once since the Vietnam war, they didn't invade or destroy any country.

    So please stop demonizing china and start fixing your own issue.

It's insane how the left always professes to care so much about minorities' rights but then utterly disregards warnings from people like this guy who have firsthand experience of what oppression ACTUALLY looks like! The left are so hypocritical and contradictory! It's clear that the only minorities they care about are those that agree with them! Newsflash… That's called caring about those who agree with you, not caring about minorities!
