It really depends per region. Sure a lot of places were improved by colonialism, however places like India were definitely down graded

I question the pathology that ignores cultural destruction in light of economic prosperity. He also goes without acknowledging the large number of countries who are annexed by a greater nation and then abandoned when when cultural acclimation fails. It is easily acknowledged that the economy gets larger when a larger country takes over, but at what cost? African Americans enjoy a quality of life greater than most African diaspora, and a greater relative prosperity, but the line of causality that brought us here involves the removal of our culture and the subjugation of our very lives for 100s of years. For some of the places that we've colonized, prosperity as we understand it was not a virtue of the people living there. If prosperity is the barometer for human success, you can look at human history and say that war times are our most prosperous times. I would disagree.
What about the tens of millions who were killed by imperialists? Are they better off too?
"African-AMERICAN" Is an INSULT!!
these racists give no credit to Africa 🤦♂️ this will be colonists major downfall in the modern world, so be it
Imperialist apologia. This is straight garbage
1000 BC the Philistean had Iron technology and became dominant in the land, we do know only by the bible
Do your work or pis off
England never conquered Scotland. It spent 700 years trying then the two merged.
Out the cologne,.. 😷
What they don't teach about de colonisation is the collapse of these countries
Sowell’s a die hard conservative. Fine if that’s what you’re buying, but don’t think he’s selling unvarnished history.
I wish this guy would be born again and live during this time. Why doesn't anybody listen to this man. Genius
This chap is very clever
Dishonest framing of the problem, what schill for the white capitalist
Germans, Jews? erm. Jews aren't from Western Europe
I bet psychologists would have a field day with this guy.
@yous1413 There are secrets, lies, and misconceptions about colonial history that are little known. The Left and the ex-colonies distribute only one side of the story.
Black elites in many African countries actually took part in the slave trade by selling African labour to foreign traders. And Arabic traders were engaged in that trade both long before and during the European colonial era. But slavery had mostly disappeared in the 1800s as European countries underwent more enlightenment at home.
Compensation for colonised countries? There would have to be huge deductions from that for railway stations, roads, bridges, public buildings, airports, shipping ports, hospitals, and schools that were built by the colonisers. I nearly forgot the plumbing and electrical infra and help with defense against neighbours. Then there were the massive and ongoing AID programs giving varied types of assistance to Asian and African countries over many decades. A more recent example was the Western funding for billions of Covid-19 vaccines that were distributed around the world. It has also been Western money that has flowed to developing countries through the UN and World Bank for decades. And the West has allowed lots of immigration from former colonies that allowed remittances to be sent back home.
It is extremely difficult to give direct financial aid to developing countries due to widespread corruption and autocratic government in so many of them. We will never know how much well-intended money was siphoned off by corrupt governments. Those factors have all along been playing a huge role in the under development of those countries, even several decades after independence.
I know these things as I widely traveled in various former colonies, and I even lived in British colonial Hong Kong in the 1980s.
But the leaders of those countries naturally blame the West. Do we need to wonder why? They love scapegoats!
Going against popular grain with incontrovertible evidence and objective analyses shows Dr Sowell's exceptional distinction.
This is part of his explanation he gives for why the British empire came to be,
He makes an interesting and understandable point in that Britain is an island and as such no land borders that could be easily crossed for land grabs and invasions.this gave more time to build a stronger connected society .
Instead of wasting time and resources on protecting borders it created an environment that encouraged progress and development.
As an island nation ship building was vital, but new designs and techniques were made possible at a faster rate than the rest of Europe due to being less worried about neighbours. Then add to that the stable society and impartial and independent law system attracted investment from abroad which brought wealth which encouraged invention and development…….
So a strong society and equal treatment under the law with the sea as a border and,360° access to the global highway of the sea is how it came about…m
I get unsubscribed more often from this channel than any other! What a danger this man must be!
