What ever happened to letting “boys be boys?” Take these two cases: In one, a seven-year-old boy was sent home for nibbling a Pop Tart into a gun. In another, a teacher was so alarmed by a picture drawn by a student (of a sword fight), that the boy’s parents were summoned in for a conference. In short, boys in America’s schools are routinely punished for being active, competitive, and restless. In other words, boys can no longer be boys. Christina Hoff Sommers, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, explains how we can change this.

Being a normal boy is a serious liability in today’s classroom. Boys tend to be disorganized and restless. Some have even been known to be noisy and hard to manage. Sound like any boy you know?
But increasingly, our schools have little patience for what only a couple of decades ago would have been described as “boyishness.” As psychologist Michael Thompson has aptly observed: “Girls behavior is the gold standard in schools. Boys are treated like defective girls.”
As a result, these “defective girls” are not faring well academically. Compared with girls, boys earn lower grades, win fewer honors they’re are far less likely to go to college. Boys are languishing academically, while girls are prospering. In an ever more knowledge-based economy, this is not a recipe for a successful society.
We need to start thinking about how we can make our grade school classrooms more boy-friendly. Well, here are four reforms that would make a very good start.
1. Turn boys into readers.
In all age groups, across all ethnic lines, boys score lower than girls on national reading tests. Good reading skills — need I say? — are critical to academic and workplace success. A major study in the UK discovered, not surprisingly, that girls prefer fiction, magazines, and poetry while boys prefer comics and non-fiction. Boys whose eyes glaze over if forced to read Little House on the Prairie may be riveted by the Guinness Book of Records. Boys will read if given materials that interest them. 2. Inspire the male imagination.
Celebrated writing instructor Ralph Fletcher contends that too many teachers take what is called “the confessional poet” as the classroom ideal. Personal narratives full of emotions and self-disclosure — these are stories girls commonly write — and these are prized; whereas action stories describing, say, a skateboard competition or a monster devouring a city, these are not. I recently read about a third-grader in Southern California named Justin who loved science-fiction, pirates, and battles.
An alarmed teacher summoned his parents to school to discuss the picture the 8-year-old had drawn of a sword fight — which included several decapitated heads. The teacher expressed grave “concern” about Justin’s “values.” The boy’s father was astonished, not by his son’s drawing which to him was typical boy stuff, but by the teacher’s overwrought — and female-centered — reaction.
If boys are constantly subject to disapproval for their interests and enthusiasms they are likely to become disengaged and lag further behind. Our schools need to work with, not against, the kinetic imaginations of boys.

Here are the reasons why boys are failing school:
– Majority of teachers are women and they don't know what it's like to be a boy or a young man
– Boys don't fidget and lose concentration in class simply because they are immature. It turns out their brains are wired for continuous movement, competition and exploration. This is thanks to two chemicals in the brain – testosterone and serotonin
– Teachers give higher grades to girls than to boys with the same academic ability. Researchers suggest girls are better behaved in class and this influences how teachers perceive their work. Another put forward by the researchers is that teachers deliberately inflate girls grades as a way of encouraging them in a subject where they are often seen as weaker
– One important thing is that men's brain takes longer to fully develop. Males tend to lag female development by two years, this is also the reason why young women often find young men their ages immature and tend to date older men. It probably also has an effect on boys learning.
– The school is simply boring, while girls and young women might not see this as a problem when learning new things, boys and young man might need some encouragements and excitement in order to be inspire with the subject teachers teach
– I completely agree with the statement about books. When I was attending school, I didn't like a single book we had to read and because of this i had no desire to read. A couple years later one day i was really bored and i looked at my fathers books and decided to read one. Ever since that day reading is one of my favorite hobbies.
– One thing that nobody ever mentions is high divorce rates also have a huge impact on children especially boys. Children from fatherless homes are more likely to be school dropouts, have behavioral problems, abuse drug and alcohol and engage in delinquency
I find it crazy that this video got 29k dislikes, probably from feminist who hate men and want them to fail in life. Things need to change. Men who might not get a good education might end up as criminals and cause trouble to our society. Are you women really so delusional to not see this as a problem as it will also effect your lives!?

I started grade school in 1948. We have three recesses a day two 20 minute recesses at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and a 1-hour lunch period in which we could go out and play as soon as we finished our lunches, where the we went out to the playground and pretty much did whatever we want with the boys roughhousing and playing sports. If a fight started between the boys, the teacher would generally look on for a few minutes to make sure it was a fair fight and then break it up if necessary. We had a saying sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me. What was hurtful was a punch in the nose and no boy I know made it through second grade without a bloody nose. When I came home from school after my bloody nose my father took me to one of the neighbors who had been a WW2 combat veteran and had him teach me how to fight. A couple weeks later I returned the favor and vanquished my attacker with a bloody nose of his own. Words are not hurtful but a punch in the nose is.

I was raised by two feminists. Looking back I see they were terrible decision makers. They had the bumper sticker "The best man for the job is a women". They were finger pointers. Their failures were always someone elses fault. They did not like men mostly because they didn't like themselves. Of the seven children, all of us moved out of state when ee were old enough.
And when the girls grow up, they have to face the war on women by those very same confused boys pretending to be women.

I studied in a christian school and i will admit teachers didn't put in the same amount of effort for boys and girls. They subscribed to the patriarchal belief that boys will be boys and often let them get away. Unknowingly shaping them to be incapable people. Academically and socially.
I always love listening to this, because this is all true. I remember seeing start to happen when I was growing up in the 90s.
Men are the ones who build the world and only they can change it. That's why they wanna destroy their spirits from the very beginning.
The war on boys sounds like a Spartan cultural institution for making sure they have a good bunch of warriors on hand should the need arise. Maybe that’s why they are doing something like the Spartans junior war college starting for them at age 7. Weed out the wimps early and send them to the girl’s school in the town. That’s what are universities have become; girl’s schools.
