Why does Hollywood lean up until now to the Left?
I’m a home entertainment reporter and film critic, so I get asked this concern a lot.
‘ If Hollywood showed America, then half of Tinsel Town must be as red as it is blue. However that’s not from another location the case.
Why?
Here are 5 reasons.
One. Guilt.
A-list stars are paid amazing amounts of cash to play dress-up. They’re ridiculously fortunate. And they understand it. And they feel guilty about it.
That regret needs to be mitigated.
And what better method to lighten it than to speak up for the “less fortunate”: the undocumented immigrant, the misinterpreted crook, women, blacks, gays, and the transgendered. And, by God, there’s an entire world to be saved!
You can’t feel guilty if you’re conserving mankind, can you? If it implies no actual sacrifice on your part, specifically.
Two. The Need for Meaning
Someplace along the line– probably in the ’60s when so many wholesome ideas went south– the concept that supplying entertainment was, in and of itself, valuable, lost currency– not with the public, however with the glitterati.
Sure, acting brings money and fame, however not “meaning.” And meaning is more important than both, especially if you can acquire it so inexpensively: all you have to do is say the ideal aspects of the right causes. That those causes always occur to be leftist ones is simply a coincidence.
Three. The Need to Be Loved.
Many stars live to be loved and appreciated. When stars rail versus border enforcement, pro-lifers, or a particular real estate mogul, and get fawning press protection, that’s even more love and appreciation.
And there’s a reward. You get to be informed how bold you are “for speaking up.” A rant about “weapon violence” on Oscar night becomes a “powerful declaration.” It doesn’t get better than that.
Speaking of Oscars, if you have any hope of winning an award– (and who doesn’t want awards?), that ambition goes out the window if you’re thought of being on the incorrect side of the political aisle.
4. Career Preservation
Task security does not exist in Hollywood. And this makes everyone, from the top stars to the lowest team members, really worried.
So, in order not to give anybody the smallest reason not to hire them, Hollywood types double down on woke posts to Twitter or Instagram applauding the latest leftist trend.
These messages send a clear signal to their coworkers, and particularly to their companies: “I’m a forward-thinking progressive, much like you.”
Press against this orthodoxy and you’ll pay a stiff price. Ask Gina Carano how that works. When the star of the popular Disney series, The Mandalorian, recommended that conservatives were being persecuted for their political beliefs, she was light-sabered from both the program and Hollywood, Inc
. Or consider how singer Macy Gray changed her tune after she stated trans women aren’t the like women-women. Mercilessly pounded for this apostasy, it just took a couple of days for her to totally recant.
Five. It Must Be Wrong if It’s Right
There is a pervasive belief in Hollywood that conservative concepts are grounded in “hate” or “rejection”. Conservatives hate gays and minorities, deny science and even deny that America is systemically racist … and on and on.
Picture, they wail, if these haters ever got power. We ‘d come down into fascism, or worse.
This explains why celebrities get hysterical whenever the political winds shift. Hollywood activists never ever say, “oh, we lost that one,” they state it’s the “end of the world.” And to them, it is.
Okay, I can hear you asking, why should we care what Hollywood actors believe? I agree we should not care so much, but– let’s face it– a great deal of individuals do. Stars are American royalty.
And, like it or not, they have a huge platform. When they take strident political positions, it even more divides us.
