Why Believe in a God Who Won’t Answer Prayers?
How would you respond to someone who says one of the reasons he isn’t a Christian (and has turned to tarot cards) is that his prayers were never answered when he believed in God? Greg and Amy answer on the #STRask podcast.

I heard testimonies from people claiming God answered their prayers and blessed them. Problems I prayed about over a period of time got worse. I quit praying and going to church. It became abundantly clear that God has his favorites and I'm not one of them.
What if his prayer was for the God of the Bible to reveal Himself to him so he could believe?
His spiritual path isn't Christianity. That's why his prayers weren't "answered."
If you're on the right spiritual path, your prayers are "answered."
There's many gods, and spirits. You just have to find the right one(s), that help you achieve what you're looking for.
Sometimes none of the gods want to work with you, so irreligion or atheism is your path.
Hmmm I've only ever had one prayer answered and that could have just been a coincidence therefore. I've spent the last year mostly in severe pain. No medical help has helped me so far. I cried out to God I begged him to stop this happening. I also have severe anxiety so I am in a constant state of stress. I can't cope with this either. I prayed to God about this too. I also asked please don't let us get covid and my boyfriend has it now and I'm ill so my test might be positive too. I'm physically and emotionally drained from constantly being ill. I'm at breaking point and God is not listening or maybe he's not even there. How can a God who loves me put me through such hell. It's all very well for Christians with perfect lives to be so positive. If you were in my boat you wouldn't feel that way trust me.
Name it and claim it theology is one reason why people think this way. False teachers are everywhere and this is what they teaching. This is a horrible theology that is hard to break through when speaking truth. It's sad that most of these people call themselves christians but have no faith in what God wants for them. For them it is a selfish religion, and has nothing to do with a pure and righteous faith.
Greg I love your content, so I only offer this as a constructive piece of advice. It seemed like you assumed the person in question’s prayers were materialistic and selfish right off the bat. Amy helped bring in “legitimate” requests at the end, and I loved her response on the goodness of not being “answered”. However, I think the assumption of materialism and selfishness may not be giving this person the benefit of the doubt
God always answers prayers of His chidren. Always. Sometimes he says "wait" but He always, always answers. All things we need and ask for will be given us, but often we have to wait until paradise.
The problem with people is that they think prayers are a magical incantation that compels God to take action as commanded.
My aunt, a true believer prayed that she wouldn't have to leave her kids as orphans. She died an unexpected and sudden death. One of my cousins stopped believing in the power of prayer ever since.
How would you approach her?
The Hiddenness of God is one of, if not the Number One Questions of faith. It doesn't seem like something that can be answered outright. The question has haunted me all my life and will likely continue to haunt me for the rest of it.
Amazing! 🧡🙏🏼
I love how Greg and Amy are always robust and biblical in their responses. Thank you for your faithfulness! 😊
Why ignore a God who does answer prayers?
